I have a couple of questions about the Astro van hydro boost: 1. Do you use the master cylinder that comes on it for a Chevy disc front and drum brake rear or do you change the MC to another style ?If you do change , what to ? 2. Do you have the same concerns to capture all the hoses and fittings on the unit, even if I plan to have braided lines made ? 3. Will this booster fit straight out from the firewall with a stock 302 ? Are the correct years 2001-2003 for the hydro booster ?

I'm using the 97 Astro Hydroboost...

1. Use the 1980 Camaro MC for Disc/Drum.

2. Just go to NAPA and have some hydraulic lines made.

3. Madgyver has a write-up on how to make the stock astro bracket work, search for that thread for more details if you want to go that route.

4. I'm not sure about the correct years. I was told to look for one out of 1995 - 1999 year model, but I have heard about other people using the 2000 year models as well, so I'm not real clear on that either.

Don't know what year astrovan i grabed mine out of but,, It would have worked coming strait out if i was running a 302(almost cleared the 351.) I used the astro van mc works fine and was designed for a disc/drum set up why not use it? I would grab as much hose as possible and have them reworked alot cheaper then having new ones made. But if you have a line on getting some made don't worry about the hoses.

Stock astro hoses will work if you rebend the end tubes carefully and all you'll need is to do is change the flare on one end of the hose that goes to your PS pump, whichever pump you decide to use...

Check my gallery. I have the Late 90's Astro Hydroboost and I used the Mastercylinder and proportioning valve that came with it. It clears a 351W. I had it originally with my old carb setup and now with my EFI. Its tight but everything clears just fine.

In my gallery is a picture of a 95 Astro HB. Looks a lot like casadejohnson's.
  1. Since you're using Disc/drum, I think the master cylinder will be okay.
  2. If you're making your own lines, I wouldn't worry about the Astro lines....one should be 16mm X 1.5 o-ring and the other 18mm X 1.5 o-ring. I made my own lines with 6AN ends, and I used 6AN/16mm & 6AN/18mm adaptors to connect.
  3. With the straight bracket (certain years have angled bracket), I was able to get the HB to fit by rotating it 180 degrees. I have a stock 302, and it was a tight fit. If you're still using your column shifter, I think I heard that you might have interference problems.

If you don't rotate the h-boost it will clear the column shift like the levers were made to clear it.

I have a Six cylinder so I am not sure if a h-boost would fit with a 302. I think it would all depend on body lift.

I have a 94 Astro hydroboost mounted up right and mated a 76 m/c to it. I elongated the holes on the M/C so it would fit the h/b. When mounted upside down, it was in the way of the 3spd shift linkage, but had no problem mounting it upright with my 289.
