Does anyone know which astro van pitman arm is flat? Is it the awd or the 2wd version? I need a flat pitman arm with a center to center length between 6 and 6.5".
I googled 6000 threads and looked at a myriad of part numbers and got all sorts of conflicting information. I am hoping someone here has first hand knowledge and is willing to share.
I have read that an astro van pitman arm is 6.25" and is flat so I should be able to make it work with my setup. I also like that it's thicker so it will allow plenty of material to drill for my 1 ton high angle bushing. Problem is, as noted above, I do not know whether to order one for an awd or 2wd van.
No local places have an astro van pitman arm for me to look at. (Local pick n pull is no longer) There are a gazillion threads on pirate and other sites that conflict. Some say the awd vans have a flat pitman and the 2wd have a drop. Other sites say the opposite. go figure.
Note, I already tried a 79 f150 pitman arm I had lying around.. I heated it up, then beat it close to flat. (I'd like it flat so my drag link and track bar remain parallel) Problem is the flattened 79 arm ended up around 7" and my new 1.5" dom tie rod will come up and hit the new 1.5" dom drag link when suspension cycles.
With my new to me 37s I like the axle moved forward and I really don't want to move the front axle back. Nor do I want to move the 4x4x2 steering box. Nor do I want to add a drop trackbar bracket on the frame. Nor do I want to modify the raised track bar bracket I built on the axle. With a 6.25 arm, I should still get full turning movement on my d60.
