Hard to tell. Install was dreamy, but I'm yet to run it through its cycle. Waiting for my dad to come over and bleed the brakes with me. So far I do think that the replacement rod they give you is not threaded far enough down the rod. My pedal is sitting way to high with the rod threaded all the way down. I'm gonna wait til its running properly and then ill mess around with the pedal height.

Just out of curiousity, why do you want to stick with the plastic m/c reservoirs instead of going with the Camaro?

Looks better, wont rust, wont leak and i can see the fluid levels at a glance. From what I've read there are a lot of leaky camero masters on astroboosted broncos. Also the camero master is a different bore size. Its 1" I believe and the astro is 1.25".

Hmmm, makes sense. Might have to pickup an Astro M/C then! I wonder how a Superduty M/C would fit? I never paid the one in my '04 much mind but it had a plastic see through res and hydroboost.

Super Duty m/c is huge and doesn't fit well, if at all.

Ordered my lee's fitting this morning.

This is the thing that chaps my ass about living in Canada. Napa down the street from me has a 5.0L explorer PS pump. $175. $75 of that is a refundable core. 7 miles from my house in Sumas, Wa the same pump is $101. $55 of that is a refundable core.

Napa 1 block from my house - $100
Napa 7 miles from my house - $46

So looks like I'm hoping over the border tomorrow to pick up a pump. And get gas $1.20 cheaper a gallon. And get a cheap 6 pack of beer for 1/2 the price. Gotta love supporting your local economy.%)

Hammer, I'd like to know if changing out the fittings and the explorer pump makes a big difference for you. My "power steering" is nowhere new "powered" since dropping in the 5.0L and I cannot be sure if it's the pump, the box or both. Thinking of removing the box and ship to West Tx Offroad for a rebuild. Would like to know how your stuff works out.

I don’t want to jack your thread... But do you have a body lift. I just bolted my 5.0 w Exploder serp in last week and I don’t have enough clearance to close the hood with the power steering reservoir bolted on.

Your gonna have to move the reservoir back and down,by using a xtra piece of metal to adapt the two.

Not a terrible idea.

I just got brave after seeing 904Bronco's picture and went out to the garage and slammed the hood real good. It closed. Looks okay. I can't see what kinda clearance I have with the hood closed though. Got a light in there but no where to really get a good look at it.

The solution to this problem is Silly Putty. Get a big glob of clay or Silly putty and put it on top of the item you think has the least clearance. Once you close the hood, you will see exactly how much (if any) clearance you really have in the putty.

Yup i have a 2" body lift. check out the explorer serp tech article. its on the left of the screen under "more tech" you just have to relocate it down.

Good luck with stock Exploder single return reservoir. I found I needed a custom dual return PS resy to make both the steering and brakes work on my 68 with 97 Exploder, Astroboost (and ram assist). Found that either brakes or steering would work but not both well at the same time until the dual return resy. Now both work great and the brakes will throw you through the windshield if not careful.
Can't post photos from this computer but my astroboost with astro MC comes straight off the firewall and no problem with hood clearance. Got a 3" BL and it helps the Astroboost to clear the upper manifold. We turned the Astroboost body 180 degrees so the gold pressure resy is at about 2:00 o'clock position on driver's side, more out of the way.
Had probably five PS pumps (stock, rebuilt stock, two new stock, one from another race outfit) in it until found one from Lee Manufacturing that works well.

Again good luck.

I am putting my 95 astro hydroboost unit on my angled bracket and the rod going into the hydroboost is about 3/4" too long when it is compresses into the unit and about 1 1/2" too long when it is pulled out. What is everyone doing to get this to work correctly? (My measurments are not exact as I am just eyeballing them.

You need to modify the rod or get the ebay bellcrank. search bronco hydroboost on ebay and you will find it. thats what i used.

Hi,

I hate these powerflex russell hoses... My latest problem is putting a hose together with angled fittings on each end. Its a major pain in the ass to line up the fittings at the right angle on both sides. The hose always wants to spin as you're tightening the fitting throwing itself out of alignment. I had to give up and come inside last night before I started throwing tools across the garage.

I started out very patiently plumbing the high pressure lines early this afternoon.

I should have followed your advice as my frustration level reached a point higher than I expected.

What is the trick to keeping the hose from spinning in the fitting? I have looked at a few sites; but most of them are using a different type of fitting. (Mine has the brass ferrule over the inner tube.) I thought that with the hose in place, and one end fitted, I could get the fitting oriented and then tighten the collar. It twised and distorted the hose.

Any words of wisdom would be appreciated. (In the meantime I might try the same approach but stop before tightening the collar very much. I will do it in a vice to finish, although I'm not certain how to keep the hose from spinning in that setup either. I know grease may work... just not sure where, what type and how much.)

Thanks for any help.

Jeff

I also have a question.. I have a master cylinder from Toms that is for the disc/disc setup. IT is new.. Do I need to get a different master cylinder for this 95 astro hydroboost unit or will it work just fine?
