I'm sitting here looking through current posts or CB about 20 minutes ago and headlights pull down my driveway. My sons bronco is generally hidden and out of sight, but he has been home from college for winter break and has been using it now and then, so it has been in the carport for a few weeks. My house is in a rural area and 100 yds off the road, but somewhat visible from the road. Nobody comes to my house at night that I am not expecting. So I grab my .45 and head out the door. It's some piece of shit 90's looking rollback tow truck and a couple of"Hispanic gentlemen", for lack of a better description, in it. claimed they were looking for a Chrysler 300. I convinced them they were in the wrong place and that they needed to back out the drive way. They apologized and backed out.

Obviously we were home, there are 4 cars parked in front of the house, so hard to say, but suspicious at minimum.

should sneak out the back and hide in the shadows and watch for what the motive is.

In my area "they" send out scouts to properties, mostly women. Pretend to be lost and can't speak the English lingo. The only way to deal with "them" is exactly what you did. Funny thing is, "they" are to dumb to have noticed all the cars at your casa as they came in anyway. And when confronted "they" always give you the dumb confused look.

And remember, always practice the three S's. Shoot, shovel and shut up. That was taught to me by some tough as nails wranglers over in the Az. during my ranching days. Good advice it was.

Funny you should post this. I have a 69(I think) that is for the most part a parts truck, but certainly restorable , no doors, 1/2 of a front clip,no top or tailgate, but it will start and run. I have it completely tarped to keep the rain out so you can barley tell what's under there. I keep it at my rental yard with some other equipment . I stop by the first Monday this year and the bronco is gone. You can see drag marks in the stone where it was dragged up on a rollback, very obvious. I go up to talk to my landlord who lives about 250' away from the yard space, they saw the bronco on Sunday , but did'nt see anyone in the yard as they were out for awhile. Guess my bronco is gone. Call the state police they come by and I fill out a report, not much they can do, espically since it's not registered. I'm pissed, but what can you do, there is another guy in the yard that buys and sells junk cars, they talk to him, he knows nothing. Get a call about an hour later, they got my bronco, apparently someone was coming to pick up some cars for the crusher from the scrap guy and they took the bronco by mistake. So at least I got it back minus the shredded tarp after the 150 mile round trip drive. You never can be too careful, takes about 3 minutes if the bronco is in the right position to load and disappear.

Surely a legitimate towing company would have address of said car and GPS to guide them to it. Glad you were home with your 2nd amendment right to set them straight.

Its locked up in a nice cozy place now where a rollback can not back up to. It would have been an easy pick where it was at. I can't imagine someone thinking there would be no one home with the cars out front like that and at 8:30 pm, most are not asleep. But definitely not a legit towing with the truck they were in. I like to error on the side of caution and run everyone out that I don't know about like that. I also have two dogs in the front yard that I think have prevented a lot rif raf. A Pitbull, who is a big ol baby and a German shepherd that hates everyone. her nick name "ass bite" :)

I can't believe anyone, even a San Fran leftist would think confronting criminals who can see your capable of using deadly force, would go home and get a weapon. You have every tactical advantage and even a high drug addict would know that. They went to find a soft target. Suckerpunched just made his home a safer place.

Obviously we were home,

I'm on dead end kind of rural (for NJ), house set back 200 feet or so. I now have 16 cameras, connected to the net with various alerts, depending upon view.

Maybe not stop a quick snatch and grab, but at least you can keep track of those "scouting", record lisc plates, etc...

Got my in-laws a 4 camera security system for Xmas 2018. They have since added a fifth camera (max. usable)......they sit back off the main road several hundred feet surrounded by woods. Connected to the internet and as long as my father-in-law has wi-fi he can check things on his cell phone.

They have had a few issues before getting things installed. We (wife and I) are back up call from their alarm company - been called to their place several times for 'false alarms', but last time I went, the slider on the deck was open and the 2 cops entered with guns drawn!!

A good while later - months - my mother-in-law noticed several valuable pieces of jewelry missing.

Guess I need to take a gun next time I go......just in case.
