My son has an 88 Bronco 351 w/c6 we are looking for any ideas on swaping to a manual and what is involved. We are trying to get more versatility in the transmission as we want to do light four wheeling and we also need help in overdrive transmission as my son has to commute a lot for school,

I'd stay with the automatic but it would be easy to convert to manual. You can get everything you need from a full size 4x4 F150/350 pickup. It will bolt right in to a full size Bronco.

Well if you wanted less work you could always swap in an E40D automatic transmission, that gives you your overdrive without the hassle of having to add everything for a manual swap. Personally I prefer an automatic for off roading, neither is "better" though as they both have their advantages and disadvantages. It really just boils down to a matter of personal preference.

A ZF will bolt right in. The transfer case will bolt right up. Grab the tunnel cover out of a F-250. All the clutch parts (master, pedal, hose, ect) will bolt right in with pop outs in all the right places. Grab a cross member out of manual bronco and you are golden. I was very very happy with the ZF I put in my 83.
