The first is just before the race, sec. after we got it home, notice scratches on corner from drifting off the trail. 3ed shows the spring bucket resting against the bottom of the M/C, the dirt is from the shock oil. 4th shows the whole thing including the frame.

I notice you run the bump stops/cushions inside the spring. Do you think that those would add some extra forces to the spring bucket when bottomed. vs. the standardard style bump stops that take the load between the axle and the frame?

So chuck do you have any plans on designing a stouter spring bucket replacement?
I think they would sell pretty well.

Uhhh, she looks a little "low and slow" now. Looks like you kept her in one piece though. How far in did ya get?

Interesting shots of the coil bucket - I don't think I've ever seen one broken off like that before.....

Looks like you're going to have to go to hydroboost straight off the firewall if you plan on running coilovers next year (hint....hint....:)).

The rubber bump stops inside the coil may have contributed to the failure but I also had hyd. bump stops on the radius arms. You can see in the picture below that the hyd. bump and the shock bottom about the same time. I set it up that way along with the coils being 1" short of bind and the rubber bumpers inside the coils compressing 3" total and the tierod/drag link and track bar all clearing the oil pan by 1/2". You can see the dust marks in the shock shaft but I have 3 dents on the pan so maybe I miss measured a little.
Anyway it seem I need more damping/bump stop or do a better job of missing traps.
PS I have never heard of people having problems with the spring buckets so I don't think they would sale well unless they had something extra like built in duel shock mounts

The Vac. brakes did a great job of stopping the racer and holding up the left front corner. Testing my product in ways I had no intention of testing it but you are right if I go to coil overs I will have to change the location of the brake unit or go hydro boost. I have some ideas:)

Not so much as people having problems with them but I know they have been asked about on the forum before for those that are trying to replace old rusty ones or find some to use for a rear coil set up.

What did you make the bottom coil buckets out of? I have already bent several stock and braced stock kinds when I have been fooling around and jumping looks like 1/4"?

I've done that before too! I jumped the old girl once and upon landing the cup ripped off the frame and put a coil spring sized buldge in my inner fender, some welding and reinforcing and she's back at it.

They are prototypes that I am done testing(no bend, no problems for 3 yrs of Baja), 1027,71 and 110 miles, they should be available in the spring. Good eye.
