is there a difference between the factory and aftermarket ones? the one I got off of the web seemed to be cheap, and of course fried for whatever reason. I thought it would be a simple hookup.

is there any other way to fix this? do something different? TIA

My last one I just bypassed the switch and installed a toggle switch under the dash within easy reach.

Not only differences between factory and aftermarket, but as with most things, differences between the various aftermarket ones too.

I can't say it's exactly like the factory ones, but the Drake ones we sell seem to be of good quality and "heft" if that actually makes a difference anymore.
I have one here that I was going to be putting on a friend's truck, but we haven't done it yet so I can't compare the two. But his is the original, so will be a good comparo when we get around to it.
If you were nearby, we could try this one to see if it works any better.

Sorry you got a bad one, but that's pretty rampant nowadays with stuff. Cheap ain't always easy like it used to be. Heck, even the lowest bidder got us to the moon back in the day (edit: just realized that anniversary is coming up!). Now even some of the most expensive stuff is junk and only works temporarily.

Good luck.
