Which model are you all using?

I’m using the ever popular uv5r. For now. If/when I get my license I’ll probably get something a little higher quality. And base unit setup. I’ve been watching lots of YouTube lately about all of it.

If you’ve had it for years and haven’t used it since turn of the century... that’s pretty cheap! I’ve got to get dad to help me test them today or tomorrow tho.

I have a Rugged Radio, but I know people who are considering purchasing the idential Baofeng version for basically half the price. The problem is programming them. Is there anyone who has programmed these that can help a few people out? Thanks!

Look up the open source software Chirp. A $5 programming cable and you are good to go!

and apparently I missed the earlier post! Late as always!

I programmed 8 radios the other day. Four Retevis and four Baofeng. The baofengs all had different firmware so I had to create a different file for each one. But it wasn’t that complicated. You have to pay attention to which COM port the driver runs so you pick the right one in CHIRP or it won’t detect the radio.

I have a blue rugged radio 5W and a black Boefeng 8W. i have a RR speaker mic and a boefeng speaker mic. The rugged stuff is nice. The Boefeng is shit. I will never buy another boefeng product. If you want to give it to your little kids to play with around camp fine....but for a hard working man you deserve a little better....get the rugged stuff without hesitation.
