Let's hope the Jay Leno bill gets signed.

Well it has to be signed...
Then the Bronco has to qualify as a classic, wondering what the criteria is for that...
Can't drive it over 1000 miles a year, not sure how that has to be reported...
Will it need special "Classic" insurance...

I wouldn't mind not having to keep almost 50 y/o smog equipment alive, just not a fan of the State controlling my driving habits in another way....

Leno's law seems to have some problems with it. Yeah the date for smog will advance (as it was supposed to do when the smog laws went into effect), But now cars that were already exempt, 75 and older, will have driving restrictions placed on them. I dont see that as a win for the early Bronco community.

Why is the state allowed to put a stipulation on mileage? I was all for raising the smog exempt cutoff year, but there is too much control written in to this law.
I understand mileage stipulations between a customer and their insurance company. That's a contract that YOU choose.

I'm hoping this isn't a step toward limiting mileage on all vintage vehicles.

I read the mileage limit as they are trying to eliminate anybody with an old gross polluting vehicle from claiming it's a classic just to get around fixing it. But I also think it's a few people in positions of being able to make these decisions that really want to just get older vehicles off the road altogether. My Bronco drives maybe 1,500 miles in a good year, and 300-500 in a bad year. Oh and I have to smog like a 1993 Mustang. So while I have been following with a mild interest. I'll probably never be able to benefit from it.

California smog regulations in the late 1980's were horrible. I have no idea who came up with this idea for an emissions check, but it was off the wall.

I had a 1968 Mustang in 1988. The emissions check at that time required a "CARB kit" to pass the test.
The kit came with a plug to plug off the vacuum advance. With that installed, you then had to retard the timing to half of the factory setting.
If I remember correctly, the factory setting was 7°. So set it at 3.5° for the emissions test.

My car had a high lift cam and it almost died with the timing set so low.

The guys at the shop were pretty cool. They told me when I was done I could roll out to the parking lot and remove the kit and turn the timing up.

Nothing more than a money grab.

“1973” titled as a 1977. No ‘77 fuel doors, no visible frame stamp. I’m surprised Bat let this one fly …
