BCB's Vintage Air air conditioning system

Gents,

I have pretty well decided to go with Chuck's system but have a couple of questions;

- Does anybody have pics of how you mounted the controls ? I have always wanted to keep my dash stock and have succeeded (mostly). So I am thinking about getting the kit with the standard knobs which are designed to closely replicate the stock knobs. Of course, there are 4 so I would like to see how these have been mounted and how they turned out.

- Has anybody ordered the fancy schmancy brushed aluminum version with the backlit knobs. If so, where did you mount them and how did they turn out ?

- BCB provides a bulkhead for the hoses to go through the firewall. The intended mounting location is on the firewall, top & center behind the intakes. I can't mount mine vertically as my EFI harness passes through the firewall right below the original heater control cable. I believe I can mount the bulkhead horizontally above the cable but Chuck wasn't aware of anybody having done this and had some concern whether this would work given the predetermined lenghts of the hoses (short) and their fittings as supplied in the kit. Anybody mounted their bulkhead horizontally ?

Any and all input, prefereably with pics, would be awesome guys !

Thanks

You can mount the original knobs on the new controls. Get new ones. They are about $12 bucks a piece.
The 4th one could mount in the speaker grill.
I put a brushed stainless steel plate behind mine so mine doesn't look stock but it can definitely be done.
As long as you are putting a stock style knob on it the 4th one could go anywhere and look pretty darn oem.

I mounted mine horizontal, it did make the hoses a little tricky to install but they did work. The main problem I have with it like this is that one of the hoses hits the back of my radio. Not sure if I would have the same peoblem with it vertical?

I used aftermarket aluminum knobs on my controls. I changed all my dash knobs to this type.

Also, what vents are you planning on using? The standard small rectangular ones don't flow enough air to keep the unit from freezing up. I changed over to some round thru-dash ones and it works much better. Running dash and floor vents together all the time helps the air flow also.

Thanks for the replies (keep em coming)

Justafordguy, hard to tell from the pic, is there room to put the bulkhead a little higher to avoid hitting the radio ?

I was thinking about making a custom center console that goes from dash to floor and then back between front seats. I envision a round vent on each side of it, essentially blowing towards the driver and passenger at an upward angle. The center one would go along the bottom of the console to a vent mounted in back side of console. A little love for the rear passenger if you will. I realize this idea may cause problems with the two floor vents which I understand basically blow out at passenger's feet ?

What do you think ?

I'll look when I get home to see if I could have moved it up. If I remember correctly it's not the hard part of the line that hit the radio it's the rubber part but because of where it comes out you can't get it routed out of the way enough.

I like the center vent through the console to the back idea. Be sure to post some pictures.

I think the knobs provided go along good with the factory Bronco knobs

Once you decide what you may want to change, call Chuck/Roxy. They will sometimes make some substitutions for you so you don't pay twice for extras.

Nice setup, those are the same vents I ended up using. They work way better that the ones that came with the kit.

Your vent install looks much nicer than mine, your dash is even the right color, wanta trade?;D
