Bell Crank install on V8 swap (newbie)

Hey all - just getting my feet wet with my new to me '68 Bronco. It was originally a 6cyl and at some point someone put in a 302. Just want to ensure I do things correctly installing the Bell Crank. The throttle cable a previous owner installed is heavily binding and not done well.

I 'think' I can just mount the bell crank in the stock position and drill holes (where the little nipples are). I also 'think I will just need to drill a hole in the firewall from where the pedal rod will go through and that I will do that from the pedal side of things.

Is all of this right? Here's a pic of the bell crank held in place. Looks like the spring bracket might get in the way? What all do I need to do to get this all to work?

Held in place

Any help is apprecaited!

I think when I swapped the 66 to a 351w I mounted the bell crank so the rod lined up with the carb. I think the cable was ok in stock location on firewall. I moved the return spring to the front side. Also I swapped to a dual return spring. Had one snap once and it wasn't fun.

consider cable throttle linkage

Yep, I’d also suggest going with a throttle cable. If your six-cylinder truck is like mine, it originally had a cable instead of a bell crank, so you can reuse the existing hole in the firewall to run a new one. I sourced mine from BC Broncos.

Thank you. Do you have a link you can share of the one you got? Maybe a couple pics of the install?

I’m not able to grab a photo of mine right now, but here’s a link to the install instructions that should help.

In the “without” picture you shared, it looks like the cable isn’t running through the same spot in the firewall. If you check a little lower on the firewall, do you see another opening?
