Best rear seat upgrade help

I'm looking for a thread or some advise on the best rear seat to use for my 69.
I have 2 little boys and would really like to take them with me. I saw the Tech section about seat options, really like the 1997 Wrangler rear seat mostly because it folds up when not in use, it sits low and has a comfortable ride.

If your using something better or have some thoughts, sound off.

I use the original seat with seat belts. You could use quick release pins to remoive the seat. You can use kids seats with this way

Hey 23, I got your PM and found the thread.

Mine are from middle row of '02 Explorer as Randy said. Very comfortable and not a bad install.

You will like the fold and tumble.. i have instaled them for someone and it was very comfortable vs the stock seat. It also gives you more room for car seats and even 2 average size adults as there is no side arm rest.

I will be going with this type as well. They even make a split 50/50 seat now that also folds.
pic is small but you will get the idea. http://www.trucknvans.com/product-p/rmp-5051301.htm

Didn't someone post something about rear Range Rover Discovery seats? Those should be pretty comfortable.
I just have one kid so I wanted to use a reclining oem bucket seat with adjustable arm rests. That way we would have extra space and she would be more comfortable & maybe even sleep there with the seat reclined.

you don't say are you looking for something drop in and go or are you willing to do some fab work?
if you've got some skilz there are lots of options out there, just depends on how hard you want to work at achieving your goal.

here's a couple we transformed. lots of work but pretty neat results.

for a drop in and go option the wrangler one is pretty easy.

Nice seats Nick! Wow.

As for the Jeep site install, they are using the center out of the 40:20:40 middle row. I used the 2 outer ones. They came just as you see. I put a 3/4 plywood spacer so I didn't have to sink the latches into the floor, but if I did it again, I'd take the time to do it for a better look. I had an '02 Explorer at the time and had 3 kids. In '03 they added a headrest on the center piece, so I found one and upgraded. I had the '02 seat in the garage so I started experimenting back in '04 and the 2 outer pcs worked pretty well. I have the center pc (no headrest) still if you decide to go that way, but you'll need to find a match.

I use the TJ version rear fold & tumble. It's wider than the CJ/YJ and provides more room for passengers. The extra width of the cushions sort of squishes between the wheel tubs if that makes sense...

Not sure if there are any left in the boneyards but we use to use the Colt vista 3rd seat. 50/50 slide/roll and tumble reclined and had headrests. I use to pick them up and sell the real clean ones. haven't seen any lately but haven't been to the yards in almost a year. Worth a shot and usually pretty cheap at half price days. Get the seat belts too. Good luck...Mo

Great conversations on seats guys. Thank you for all the tips.
I'm really leaning towards the explorer seats for my application. I like that they flip forward and even have a gas lift shock to assist. I'm going to have to start searching the salvage yards to find my seats.

Keep the info coming.

Whatever ya get, make sure they have head rests AND they are high enough to protect your kids necks if some idiot rear ends ya. Never get a seat that won't protect their necks in case of an accident. My .02 but you'd never regret it.

I put Toyota Celica reclining buckets in the back for mine decades ago. I now run a Vista fold and tumble.

Good luck, have fun wheeling with 'em!

I tried sending you a PM but your inbox is full... You clean some messages out. :) I noticed your roll cage in your Bronco, what kind/brand is yours? I want one that goes through the dash and also across the bottom for actual protection and not just aesthetics.

Also was your rear seat out of a TJ? It does look a little bigger and I've been thinking that the JK's have a bigger rear seat.

Thanks,
