Well tasker just left and we did some floor cleaning and some beer drinking (not necessarily in that order ;)) and I am working on preping the floors so that I can install the new ones which will be glued in. Some of the areas I just cannot get 100 clean so I am thinking I will use a rust converter, so I am looking for experience from the bronco crowd. So post up the good and the bad of rust converters.

While I have used Eastwoods and like it, I can't justify the price difference for it instead of Ospho or Jasco, available at any home improvement store. I've painted over both with no problems and seen no real difference except the phosphoric acid can leave a white residue that should be cleaned off.

Well, if its good enough for the ocean its gotta hold up to some road salt! Personally, I like the RustBullet stuff but POR 15 is pretty darn good as well.

I used POR15 in an old Comet I drug out of a field. Worked great for the years I owned her and drove her here in Shittycago!

So I am using POR15 on the Bronc now too, as a rust PREVENTATIVE since she is already a southwestern rust free 45 year old baby!

I was planning on doing my entire underbody in chassis saver by magnet paints. Anybody have any insight into that one?

I'm doing my full frame and under body--and a bunch of other stuff (drum backing plates, 9" housing, etc.--in chassis saver. Good stuff - it's like POR15 without all the prep and extra steps. Comes in gloss or antique satin, I believe. I've been using the satin.

I've also heard good things about an SEM product, Rust Shield. But have not used it.

I have been using the Ospho product and it works great. Converts rust to black iron oxide and then I paint over it. Very happy with the results.

I have only used POR15 and am very pleased with the results and durability. The prep is a bear but very necessary. I coated my frame, axles and entire underside with 3 coats of POR15 then top coated with urethane color.
It has held up very well despite driving on beaches.

Realilty of POR15 is you use it to topcoat surface rust but just wire brush off the loose scale (same applys to most all rust paints) And your done it wont come off!! It loves rough surfaces (just like Broncos) lol You can do all the other prep crap if your picky or your going to coat new metal that has smooth finish. Ive been using POR15 since the late 90's its bad ass stuff! I have also noticed that it will stick good to OOOLLD paint thats dull. Kinda like the original paint you find behind the dash areas on old cars/trucks The stuff was desined to withstand Salt and corrosives as it was made to line the inside of water pipes or somthing like that, its all on there website. Just remmember Only the original Black and Silver coating are the good stuff as they make paints too but its not the same thing!! The silver has metal in it so its reall good too!! They also make a putty that is just really thick black POR15, Use it to fill screw holes or dime size holes Its super rad stuff cant even knock it out with hammer or sand on it when it dries LOL Ask me how i know!
