Well, good and bad day today,
the good part is I got the oil changed in both differentials this morning and a new v belt tightened up so no more squealing, also got to drive the bronco out some backroads and four wheel on my first trail

the bad part is the bronco only made it about 15 minutes up the trail before overheating and we had to turn back, and then on the way home this happened...

engine started backfiring violently and sputtering and dying at speed, fought this on and off for a few miles before it wouldn't start and the battery died, geuss its time to read up on carburetor tuning and get it running right, 105 miles total so far though

Well after a few weeks of frustration Big Blue is back up and running and I'm happy to say I've put just under 400 miles on the new engine in a few days, turns out I was getting way to much voltage because the regulator was blown so it fried the points distributor and battery, added a new HEI distributor and new regulator and it runs very well, nice low and smooth idle, great throttle response, the whole 9, still some electrical problems though, alternator may be bad because the brand new battery barely has enough juice to turn the starter over once I stop driving, should have enough to crank for a good long while, but anyway just more to work on

On a fun note, drove out with the parents to the Oceano Dunes this morning and drove around for a little while, only got stuck once ha! Too much tire pressure and 2 wheel drive is a bad combo in the sand. Battery died but someone was nice enough to stop and give us a jump, threw it into 4lo and crawled out like a champ, messed around in the deep stuff a little once I got the hang of it, it was a blast! Awesome finally being able to drive the bronco around and enjoy it!

Out to the dunes again this weekend, now tearing up the sand! Bronco cruises around great, all the way out the sand highway through the middle of the dunes and back, my dad brought his newly converted baja bug and kept up too
Now i need a lift and bigger tires!
