what are the biggest height tires i can fit on a 15x8 rim? i went to the store to buy rims and the guy was trying to sell me 15x10's. i was talking about running 33's or 35's and he said i better go with the 15x10's. i did not want to spend the extra money and i had heard that 15x8's were the way to go. what do you guys think? can i go with 15x8's and still run 33's or maybe 35's?

The height doesn't matter as much as the width. I wouldn't go any wider than a 12.50" on an 8" wide wheel. I've got 33x12.50-15's on 10" wide just 'cuz I like the deep dish, but I could've run 15x8's no prob.

I'm running 33 x 12.5-15 tires on 8 inch rims and they work great. I prefer them over the 10's in fact. The cheapest place to buy rims is at Rimzone on ebay. Here are some pics of what mine look like.

agree w/ above

not about height, its about width. on a 12.5" tire, i wouldn't go narrower than 8', but 8" works just fine.

not to highjack your post but i am thinkg about putting my 38.5x15 boggers on a 8" wide wheel with weld-on beadlocks which should make it about 9" wide. Any input on if this would be too narrow would be appreciated or if any one has ran that wide of a tire on a skinny how they liked it.
I dont like how much they stick out on the 10" wide wheel with the beadlocks and figured i would get a littel more height out of it.
Thanks Mike

icebreaker- the weld on locks should make your 8" wide wheels closer to 10" wide with a swamper due to the thick bead. Ive seen 38.5x14.50 SX's on rockstompers on 8" wheels and it worked great (since its really a 10" wheel with the weld on locks installed).

The taller the tire you run on a skinny wheel the better. There is nothing wrong with running the typical 33-35 12.50 on an 8" wheel. A 35x12.50 will work slightly better than a 33x12.50 since there will be slightly less angle at the bead.

I have my IROK 36-13.50x15 on 8" due to recommendations from several sources. It really protects the rims and seems to hold the bead great.

In the past, we ran 35, 36, & 38 inch tires on 8 & 10 inch wheels here in my part of Louisville, Ky. mostly on F-150 trucks. I remember then, the local 4X4 shop where we did all of our business told us that the gumbo mudders we all used at the time would clean mud better on a narrower rim. Sam
