Blast cabinet trick

for those of you with media/sand blast cabinet you know first hand how you wear the finger tips out on the parts holding hand glove. with as much blasting as we do i got tired of buying sets of gloves for the left hand or even having to buy one glove because of a hole.

for us the thumb and pointer finger tip gets worn the most and gets the holes. my trick to extend the life greatly:
clean affected area with some laq thinner to get all dust and whatnot off.
i use a clear sealer adhesive and put a layer over any holes and build up that area about 3/32-1/8 thick.. let it set up then i spray that area with plastic dip rubber coating.
once it's all dry you are good to go. holds up quite well and you can tune them up a few times as needed. coming back for a second coat of dip might not be a bad thing if you have the patience to wait for coats to dry.

next is teaching people to try to avoid blasting finger tips unnecessarily promoting the premature wear..

that is all for today's shop trix

carry on... ;)

I'll send you a set of my brand new gloves. My old ones started falling apart at the elbow near the box. Pita unscrewing the gun to pick out a piece of glove. Nice trick Nick!

You're preaching to the choir Nick...we run as many as 3 large trinco direct pressure cabinets at one time at our shop. Gloves don't last too long. We can just order left gloves only and do at a rate of 4:1, but we cut the good fingers off of of the old gloves and glue them over the holes. I'll have to try then coating with the plastidip...worth a try!

Great tip buddy! Perfect timing as well because just yesterday I was blasting some parts nd noticed a hole in the thumb... Dad has been standing at the cabinet for a few days and never said a word. Guess old men are tough or something... maybe I need to go take a look at his thumb. LOL
