I recently got a 1977 bronco with power disc brakes in the front and drums in the rear. Upon opening the master cylinder, the fluid was very dark and there was sludge in the bottom of both wells-lots of sludge. I had purchased new rubber lines for the front as they looked rough at the steel rubber interface and because I had trouble getting these apart on other bronco I owned new steel lines. But with all the sludge in the bottom of the master cylinder, I decided to replace the master cylinder. I removed the master cylinder and went to Oreily's and got a new one but when I went to hook it up the fittings did not work. The fitting for the front brake line coming from the proportioning valve which appears is the factory originals (has rubber line in the middle) appears to be a 1/2 nut that would screw into the master cylinder and the one for the new master cylinder appears to take a 9/16 fitting. The fitting from the rear brake line coming from the proportioning valve appears to be a 1/4 fitting and it did screw into the new master cylinder. After it the fittings did not work I returned the master cylinder. But the question is am I going to run into this with any master cylinder I buy or if a buy one from toms or bronco grave yard or WH and go ahead and buy new lines to run from the MC to proportioning valve, will every thing fit together or is there and alternative. I really don't understand why a new MC from Oreilys (i also check advance and Auto zone) has different fitting than the original MC. Thoughts? Suggestions? remedies? Seen this before?
