i have a 74 bronco with drum brakes all the way around. i am looking at making the switch to either a hydroboost set up or power brakes i am wondering for those of you that have made the switch. if you had to take your pick of systems. any extra info would be great thanks.

what would you choose? and why that choice?

I've had both and the hydroboost is handsdown a better system for getting a firm pedal and good feel. I could never lock all four tires on my bronco with the vac assist. With the hydroboost i can. My big bronco had vac assest as well and I switched it to h-boost. The truck has never stopped better.

I'm sure you will get varying opinions.

I have front disks and while they are an improvement over the front drums, I think you get more bang for your buck doing the hydroboost. There have a been a few topics about best upgrades and Hydro is usually at the top of most peoples list.

Whats your budget? I was looking at the WH kit myself but all in its probably a little over a grand. For less than half of that you can go read the tech articles about doing the swap yourself. The folks i have talked to that have done the astro swap have said its pretty straight forward and can be done in day once you have sourced all the components.

i did see the wh kit it is a little pricey. is that the cheapest place to get a kit?

i dont mind using used parts but it really sucks when you find out your used parts are junk after you install them! i will check out the tech. articles

i already have the saginaw pump with large resevoir and a cooler with the 4x4x2 box

I had the hydroboost installed for $800 and it is awesome - easy to lock them up if you want to. I went with hydroboost so I could avoid having low manifold pressures mess with my EFI at idle because I was planning on having an aggressive cam.

ABS in Orange CA did a great job. Here's their website: http://www.abspowerbrake.com/
