ruger, there certainly are Dummy books for basic auto repairs. They are of generic information for simple tasks. Adequate for women and sissies to change brake pads, wipers and radiator hoses. Maintaining these 40 year old rigs is anything but simple. If not of serious mechanical aptitude with deep pockets, you'll quickly grow to despise the time and money wasted. I've dealt with very experienced, professional, ASE certified mechanics that were helpless to resolve shimmy/death wobble, and driveline vibration. That said, buy a set of the Ford factory manuals published by Helm. As mentioned, they are now available on CD for a very fair price. Don't even consider buying Haynes manuals. Haynes lacks illustrations and critical steps for serious work. Chiltons are OK at best, but still short on the illustrations Helm offers
