Broncos in the Weeds

I guess this should be called Broncos out of the weeds. The development next door to my Dad's place is about to put up a rock wall to separate the properties. This wall made it necessary to pull some vehicles away from the property line. Two of the vehicles ended up being these two Broncos. The red one is a '71 U15 with a damaged half cab sitting on it, but the yellow one is a '66 U14. Someday they may actually get some work done on them. Right now I'm working on a '73 U15 Explorer that I hope to have ready for him to drive some this winter.

Corn Wagon

Growing up in the Berkshires of Western Massachussetts was great. I remember every summer going to the "Corn wagon" to get our corn on the cob. It was an honor system endeavor where the farmer filled the wagon with corn and left a locked money box for you to put your cash in for the amount of corn you wanted. This IS the corn wagon. It was a half cab then (30+ yrs ago) and I am sure he drove it out into the field to harvest the corn. About 5 years ago it showed up outside and I sent my dad up to find out about it. "We are restoring it" was the answer. These were taken yesterday where it has sat for the last two years or so. Not very far into the restoration. I had dreams of driving this truck to high school way back when, but it was not for sale then either.

Every time I see thread and pics like this I always start to wonder....how many early Broncos are still out there either running or at least in good enough condition to do something with? Judging from what I have seen...I would say at least 1/3 of all early Broncos have gone bye-bye forever.

Randy this is an old farm and a Ford tractor dealership. They still have some love in their hearts and want to keep it. This is the truck that probably gave me my bronco drive.

You think there's around 167,000 left? I always wondered if there was a way to find out. Bet the NSA knows.

I looked at this one a couple of weeks ago. It was his fathers, it is a '66 U14 with 170. It is not as bad as it looks in the pictures, I think it can be saved. I am trying to work a deal with him....we will see how it goes.

Been following this thread for years but never posted to it to my recollection. Over the years (an in recent months) I have stumbled across some sad and happy moments.

First, this guy just about 20 miles from Atlanta had a Bronco for sale about 3 years ago and I went to look at it. It is the Dark Jade Metallic parked in the driveway, but he had a weed collection that he wasn't ready to move. For all I know he may be a member on this board or someone in the area may know him. If so, please PM me is info.

He had a garage full of other Broncos and parts. In his dad's house across the street he had a '66 Roadster he had restored.... wish I had gotten the VIN off of it for Tim's registry.

My other weeds story is a buddy from years ago when I lived in the Shenandoah Valley (Waynesboro), Bo Parr, had a really nice black and silver EB that he and I use to cruise in on Friday and Saturday nights down at the "Advance" parking lot (big lot across from an old school Advance Auto store).... small town living in the 80s. The first photo is of his ride then. Several years ago I was back up in the area for my dad's funeral and Bo came by to express his condolences. I ended up swinging by his home place and looking at his Bronco collection as it existed in 2008. I couldn't help but find the window A/C unit sitting on the hood funny and submitted it with a caption into Bronco Driver and it made the final page funnies.

In recent months (the past three to be exact) I have found (2) neglected Broncos that I have made mine. The first was a '74 Sequoia Brown Metallic U15 that I found in an abandoned 1800's log house/farmhouse up in North GA where my inlaws have a cabin. I wrote all about it in a post titled "Harmlessly Trespassing". It had been there for years and only used to plow the driveway if it snowed (not very often in GA and the driveway never saw salt so it was okay as far as rust went other than the front floors and outer rockers). My son and I finally convinced the owner that it would be better with us and we towed it back to Atlanta were we are working on it for his first driver (he is 15 now). He wanted the plow so I happily let him keep it to get the EB.

The second one is an EB that I have been reluctant to even mention yet until the deal was sealed. It is a '69 U15 that had been parked for years in a lean-to on a farm. Son of original owner had it and just listed it to to health and employment issues with his family. It is a nice, solid Bronco with only some mechanical needs as well as some new front seats (they have denigrated which is puzzling for a truck that is so solid elsewhere), driver's side is just the metal frame and springs???? I love the Reef Aqua original paint and the fact that it is still rust and dent-free with original paint. I have owned over (15) EBs the past 35 years, but never one in the 60s, so this '69 will broaden my horizons a little more. I pick it up tomorrow evening and can't wait to get it home!
