Build Your Own Sandblaster from V8 motor

Hello Bronco Members,
Has anyone every build a sandblaster compressor out of a ford V8 motor? I found plans to do it, but I looking to see if anyone has done this before? Maybe some tips you can give up. I have 302 motor and a trailer I can use. I using a 60 lbs pot sandblaster and 5 hp 80 gal compressor now but's to slow to do the Bronco Frame and Body. TY

I had one of those a few years ago, mine was made by Smith. It takes a special head on the R side to make the air. It was a good compressor, a little cold-natured at times, though. I believe Ford engines are the only ones that will run on 4 spark plugs/wires?? Anyhow I sold that compressor for$1200 I believe, you can find them pretty reasonable. (I upgraded to a diesel)

ive seen plans for using an aircooled vw motor. Being air cooled seems a simpler set up. plus they are in expensive.

I used to work at a rental shop & we had Grimmer-Schmidt. They used both 302 and 351 Windsors with a special Air valve head on one side. the 4 plug wires that went to that side they just ran to ground. I always wondered if it had a special cam to run on 4 cylinders as smooth as it did.

I know of a diesel IR towable air compressor that put out about 350 CFM for $1500

Needs batteries.

Not too far from PA.

Located in Michigan.

The plans to convert the V8 to an air compressor say this can be done with all part available home depot for a couple of bucks. I have know they make tow unit like Smith, but they sell for 1200 to 10,000. Looking to see if anyone built anything like that. Thanks

I have seen a honey wagon that had a SBC mated to the PTO. special heads. Was used as a high volume vacuum pump.
