Building a roll cage

Hello all, I plan on building my own roll cage for my 74 LUBR. I have a few questions though. I looked and searched the forums but couldn't find anything. I have a hard top on now but want to put a soft top on. If I make the cage fit inside the hard top will the soft top fit? If not what is the height of a soft top? I looked at some pictures of cages with no top on and the top bars are just a little higher then the top of the side window frame. Also I was thinking of removing the stock glove bock and installing a tuffy box. Any comments on that? Anyone do this and make a console at the top of the cage between the front seats for lights and switches? Any input would be great. Thanks

It *should* clear the soft top as well. The geometry is fairly similar for my Rampage top. My cage sits above my door frames and most soft tops use a windshield riser to match the height of the hard top.

Sorry, only decent profile pic I have with the top off but should help a bit.

There are a few options as far as glove box goes whether it's hinge mod, vertical pivot, or cut door. I moved my box over entirely to avoid the cage.

I agree, if you can fit the cage under the existing hard-top then most soft-tops "should" fit no problem. My cage squeezes in under my hardtop and my soft Rampage top fits as well. Only downside is the way I designed the rear (C-pillar) hoop prevents the Rampage bows from folding all the way down. It's not a big deal as you can simply unmount one side of the bow support (use a quick disconnect pin or something) to get the top to fold down. That is, assuming you fold down your soft top. Personally I just pull the windows and leave the top fully mounted as a sun block.

And sticking with Hozr's flex pic theme:

Hozr and xcntrk thanks for the input. I'm not sure what I will do with the glove box yet but I did think about cutting it out and moving it over the 2 inches.

I talked with Chuck over at BC about their top - he said that as long as your cage fits under the hard top with a stock wiper cover, it will fit under his top.
