JCKKYS Your quote: "... I can only assume what is meant as extreme wheeling must be an artificial rock crawling park. Actual off road exploration in natural environments is easy and a lot of fun with a nearly stock EB. New owners rarely consider simply repairing an EB. Most go with the herd and do huge tire/wheel combinations and lift kits, never knowing why or how great these trucks were when new."

The quote is comical!! "artificial rock crawling park"... obvious you haven't been wheeling in places I'm talking about. That's OK, but don't insinuate or try to imply anything else because you haven't experienced it.

Stock EB's were good back in the day. Actual exploration in a stock EB is fun. But there is no comparison between what a stock EB can do in 4 WD compared to what a modified EB can do.

I have fun doing light duty "stock EB capable" cruising and also enjoy wheeling in the environment that you must think is only available in "artificial rock crawling park" which I've never been to and I don't believe they have any in my entire State. Maybe they do, but I don't know where.

I had a '70 Cougar Eliminator with a 428 CJ Ram Air and went the "day 2" route with it. I loved it. There was no shortage of buyers that felt the same and it sold for a huge profit. The Thermactor air injection went into a box. I also installed better shocks, poly sway bar bushings etc. But I didn't change the look or feel.
My '77 EB got the same treatment. None of the common complaints about Ford carbs and Duraspark ignition has proven valid. If things were done correctly, the OE systems are very reliable. I have no drive abillity issues and never had vapor lock. In Tucson we just went through a week of 115 degree heat too. I can only assume what is meant as extreme wheeling must be an artificial rock crawling park. Actual off road exploration in natural environments is easy and a lot of fun with a nearly stock EB. New owners rarely consider simply repairing an EB. Most go with the herd and do huge tire/wheel combinations and lift kits, never knowing why or how great these trucks were when new.
A stock eb is awesome on the trails...

Ford guy I'm 62 and feel the pain. I have been collecting parts for efi for years and haven't made the jump. I kicked the ford carb to the curb a long time ago and went Quadrajet which runs so well off road it keeps me postponed from making the change. the only real issue is the damn California gas we are stuck with, it just doesnt work well with these old carb systems. if it wasn't for the Quadrajet I would be running EFI no 2 ways about it. I just wouldn't use the aftermarket stuff.

I just got a 68 mustang with a 289 bone stock all original . Love it. I put fi tech on my 75 bronco and after working out the bugs it ran fine. But I got to be honest every time I was setting in traffic I was a wee bit nervous about conking off . Don't know why
but I was . The guy who bought it from me wheels with the fi tech and after fixing some hot run issues {relay, and command center mods} has had no issues that he has told me about. I am in the midst of a 73 ranger restore and it is going to be a carb and electronic ignition. I retired from diesel repair cause things where getting crappy quick with the old engine hiding behind the plumbing/electronics deal. I guess I'm getting old . Get Off My Lawn!!!~
