c4 running out of fluid on steep incline.

I have a friend whose Bronco stops picking up fluid and rolls backward when going up a steep incline. Several years ago we installed a Cold Duck (I think that was what it was called) low range box. We think the fluid possibly is running back in the adapter. It does have the correct pan and pickup tube. Other people have had the same issue. Does anybody have any solutions ( deep pan-baffles-overfilling etc.)?

Cold Duck was the set up that feller came up with that WH sold for years. I think that fella died...
Was that/he actually Klune?

Couple of things come to mind first. The adaptors keep the seal in the same area so that isn't it.

Was the transmission serviced with a regular kit that doesn't put the filter at the bottom of the 4WD pan?

Is the fluid level actually correct? I remember seeing an aftermarket dipstick and tube once and thought to myself that can't work. There was nothing to make sure the tube was actually pointing up from the pan. If you angle one of those fancy flex dipstick tubes you can get the fluid to read higher on the dipstick than it should be for full in the pan. Hard to screw up if everything is factory Bronco, but no guarantee if there are aftermarket parts involved.

My 1st thought was that the extension from the trans screen is missing. Or as Broncobowsher alluded to that they used the wrong service kit at the last fluid and filter change. there is a difference between car C4 and truck...

Myself and quite a few others have always over filled their C4's due to this issue. I run a vented catch can on the vent that also lets any vented fluid to run back into the C4. I think I have a extra used one similar to the picture if he'd be interested in it.

Overfilling a transmission for a trail rig is fine. But if you cruise the highway there is a high risk of overheating the transmission fluid.

Here's a few pictures the old beat up looking one is on my trail LUBER and the shinny one is on a project buggy I've been working on for way to long. I've always just run a hose from the transmission vent to the bottom of the catch can if it burps fluid it will just run back into the transmission. I checked the extra catch can I have and it's kind of larger for a EB I knew there was some reason I didn't use it :)

I suffered through that embarrassing and frustrating situation for a couple of years on the trail before realizing that the dipstick I had wasn't a match. I was simply didn't have enough fluid in the system. It's a trail only rig so now I just fill that thing up!
