Can't Decide

I can't decide, please help!
I have a 1974 U15 1/2 cab V8 that is lifted, cut, and bondo/fiberglass covered rusty. Not running but mostly intact, in the shop being fixed. This truck is just cool!
I also have a 1966 U15 wagon that is uncut, patina, with bad floors. Its all original with three seats (silver), eyebrow grill, all metal, not been wrecked, and good chrome bumpers. Original 6 cyl is out of it and would likely put a V8 in if I keep. I want a daily driver, not a show truck.
I just can not decide what to do.
The '66 is the one I like the best, would have to replace the floors and such but would likely leave the exterior alone. Maybe put orig color back.

My options are...
sell both and buy another
sell '74 to fix the '66
sell '66 to fix the 74
sell the parts off the '66 and start over on the '74.

TOO MANY DECISIONS!

Either way, I want a bronco to drive to the 50th anniversary Super Celebration to feel like I belong.

If I could figure out how to post pictures, I would.[/QUOTE]

Click reply to thread...not quick reply and then click on the paperclip at the top of the box where you are typing. Then it will bring up another window that allows you to browse pics on your computer. Once selected hit the upload button. after it says it is done then you come back to this box where you hit the paperclip button and hit submit reply.

Jon has most all of this in the FAQ section.

Welcome to CB.
Chuck

Ok I see you figured that out while I was typing lol. Good job

Option number six: keep both fix both.
Floors are not to hard to replace, but are the supports under them good? That starts to be a bitch if those need replaced as well.
Both are very cool I wouldn't be able to get rid of either on myself.

I know that 66 and it is rough... that thing has been under water many times in the field you pulled it from... Drive train in it is likely in need of a full rebuild from water intrusion and sitting. I would look more at the 74, maybe use both to make 1, you have your work cut out for you for sure. That was one rig I enjoyed driving by and seeing it when I would visit Blue71.

Don't sell the 66 unless you need the money to feed your children. :) Despite the rust, it will be hard to find another 66 with all of those 66 pieces still intact.

For a daily driver I would keep the 66. Fix the interior, new motor, drivetrain, PS, PDB, etc. Good interior and good mechanics but leave the outside in patina. That would be very cool!

If you wanted more of a dual purpose Bronco for some trail use, I'd keep the 74. Looks like good bones for a trail rig.

Thanks for the suggestions

Thank you all for the suggestions!

Still not sure what to do. Like Englewoodcowboy said, It has been under water and the drive train will require a lot of extra attention. I like the idea of merging the two into one. No plans on cutting the fenders on the '66.

Decisions, Decisions, Decisions!

If you could sell both, what could you get for them, and what would that buy you? I mean could you get a really clean one for the price of two? I like the half-cab, but then that's because I don't own one. On the other hand, like others have said, that 66 is priceless (well almost). Good luck with your decision and welcome to CB!

I'm a '66 lover, so my vote is to keep and fix the '66 if one has to go. Drivetrain is easy to me, so I'd just do a rebuild and drive it! Body work can wait.

That being said, I'd try to keep both if at all possible. Even if one was on the back burner.

Pick one and start on it and if you get fustrated because it is taking so long you can always sell the other one for funds if needed. Since the 74 is nicer I would start on it. If you end up finishing it and didn't have to sell anything for funds for the other then start on it.

That 66 looks like it's going to need a full restoration to get it to daily driver status, not sure if you want that commitment (several yrs. and tons of $).The half cab looks to be a rig you can drive and work on at the same time,if it were me I would keep both and do the upgrades to that half cab first, and as time and $ allowed I would restore that 66,just my .02,good luck.

This is exactly what I was thinking. That was one of the things I liked about that bronco sitting was the patina of it. Maybe satin clear it to preserve it after repairing the safety things, it would be unique and very cool... plus I would like to see it living on the roads in JC again. :)

Go with the 74 so you at least have one done. The 66 will take a lot more time and resources and will fetch more $ for a better build on the 74. The 74 will fetch less $ for the more expensive build of the 66.

^^^^^^^^^^^^I wouldn't part it out........store it for years if you have to until you have the time and means to restore it. I know you said it's an eyebrow 66', but how early of a 66' is it?

Agreed! I wouldn't part it out. Too complete of a Bronco to separate the pieces. I'd much rather see it sold complete than parted out.

Thanks half cab! ;)

The '74 would be easier to make into a daily driver and dual purpose rig.
