I have a 302 with a 2bbl Motocraft carb, electric choke etc. It starts up fine and runs well for a little while but when it gets warm, if I slow down or stop it dies out. The only way I can get it started is to put the pedal all the way to the floor and sometimes that does not work. If I let it sit for a little bit, I can start it back. It reaks of gas almost like it is flooded or something. Sometimes you can see moisture around the base of the carberator which I assume is gas. I inspected the float and sprayed carb cleaner all around and removed the fuel filter and sprayed it out. I have a plastic gas tank so I don't think it could be trash. Any ideas? Thanks for the advice in advance.

%) %) %) First look at the float and make sure it isnt to high as it sounds like you are flooding out. Or it could be a bad needle seat not holding the pressure. Good luck.:D :D :D Bill %) ;D

I think Wild Bill is right. Probably needle and seat. Pop the top off the carb and check it out. If the float is burried under the gas then that's it. You can get a new float and needle in a rebuild kit.

I had the same probelm but the float was fine. Ended up getting the carb rebuilt. No problems since.

Also you can adjust the choke, but I don't exactly remember how.

Most kits don't come with the float that extra so check b4 you get home. Myself I'd replace the float, if I were rebuilding my 40ish year carb. be careful about the float lvl adjustment. the 2v motorcraft is a simple carb easy to go through.

I cleaned it out real well which worked for a little while. Today I drove it to my sons baseball game and to the store. It ran fine until we came to the last stop sign where it stalled out. It would not start right away so I waited a few minutes. It finally started when I put my foot to the floor and held it there. I drove it again tonight on a short trip out to the store and back. No problems at all so who knows. I have another carb exactly like this one laying on the bench. I may just switch them out and see what happens or try and rebuild this one.

Once I had the same issue with Holley 4150 would run fine at off throttle. then would flood out, swaped out floats new needle and seat same trouble. Then I finialy took a good look at the bowl and found a small crack where the seat seals. On yours the gasket under the seat should be whole w/ no tares or bends. Also make sure it's tight use a screw driver w/ a blade large enough to fit both slots snugly at the same time.
Also make sure no debris can get into needle an seat, ie teflon tape, rust, dirt, use liquid teflon instead. Use a good paper element filter. Screen type filters let large enough particles through to block the seal at the needle and seat.
