I have the TBP premium carpet kit and hold down strips and have a few questions in the install. My 67 didn’t originally come with carpet. I have added dynamat and dynaliner under all carpet area.

1. For the rear end of the carpet do I still use the tailgate bed seal and hold down strip(see picture 1)? If I do still use it, then can some one show me a picture of how it matches up with the carpet hold down strip?

2. for the driver side carpet hold down strip. Can someone show me a picture of a side profile of yours? I have cut back the dynaliner so that it’s not too tick at the edge but my carpet seems to still show under the strip. Should I cut dynaliner back farther?
3. should I still use the jute padding on the drivers and passengers floorboard? Seems to help with tightening it up and fix some wrinkles so I am leaning toward keeping it. Bad idea?

4. Should I glue the carpet to the jute padding and then let the jute padding sit free on top of the dynaliner? I have read that most people don’t glue the carpet all the way down?

I don’t have a Toms kit but carpet is carpet.....

The rear hold down fits just in front of, but partially over, the bed seal and covers the screws.

For the sides. I use Toms hold down strips. They turn straight down on the sides and help hide the edge of the carpet. Some others are just rolled under. I also cut the padding back so that it stops where the strip covers it. That allows it to cover the edge.

Yes to questions 3 and 4. I laid jute padding over my dynamat and then glued the carpet to the padding as I installed it. That seems to help eliminate wrinkles.

If you have an auxiliary tank, be careful if you are drilling thru the floor for the hold down strip behind the seats. Some people drill into the tank. If you have the one piece kit you may not even need that strip.

I have done the wheel wells. Where would you start with the one piece kit? Start at the center and work out, a door or the back?

I’ve never done a one piece kit. I would probably start in front of the seats where it drops down into the floor pan. Then work out to the doors and then to the back. Don’t trim any edges until it is all in.....

Thanks Slow. I appreciate the help.

Has anyone had to trim the bound edges of the TBP kit. Mine seems about an inch and a half too wide. It hangs over both sides where the doors are.

I was nervous when I first laid out my carpet kit. It did not fit well. I called the vender and they said "the kit is made to fit a typical Bronco...and there are no two Broncos alike...Some trimming may be required."

So, my carpet install required a lot of "adjustments" I used carpet jute and glued it down. I then laid out the carpet, fitted it using a steamer, and glued it down. My "kit" looked awful before the stretching, steaming, and gluing. Meaning it did not fit will. I did trim off the finished edges in a couple spots or it would have never fit correctly.

I did not use a Dynamat type material on my Bronco.

I did use Dynamat on my Mustang and still needed a steamer and trimmed the "kit".

Patience is required. I hope this helps. All the best!

was about to start a thread for help with my carpet, mostly for my tailgate carpet. I think the PO that did the body work/sheet metal replacement on my 72 filled every hole he could find, so there are no holes across the tailgate for top or bottom strips. Also, I'm not sure if I even have a 'bed seal' that goes on the end of the bed.

He also filled the holes for the lower door weatherstrip. I am guessing these holes need to be drilled a certain size for the white clips to snap into? I am planning to remove all the white clips to test fitment of the molding as I've heard horror stories, and I only want to 'snap' them in once ;D

Quite certain these are Dennis Carpenter premium seals.

I had a huge weatherstrip FAIL last Fall, so the lift gate weatherstrip has been held in by tape for a long time, finally pulled the tape off yesterday and did it right ;D upper door seals as well

Slowleak or others I think there were tips on trimming the door weatherstrip if you could refresh my memory I'd appreciate it. Also I was not aware of the TBP tack strips, do they make a big difference?

Hey Jeff, Good luck with your seals. I didn't redrill my door seal pin holes after putting new inner and outer rockers on. I used WH seals and used sharp scissors to cut the inner part of the seal that had the pins in off. Only trimmed to where the seals wrapped around the front and rear door post flanges. I used 3M weatherstrip adhesive to glue the seals on. Worked really well and my door shuts pretty well.

There are endless threads on here about door weatherstrips. Some are firmer than others and there is nothing consistent about the way doors fit. The main issue is that the seals are often too thick, or firm, and require trimming if some of the excess extruded rubber throughout the length of the lower seal. Sometimes removing the white clips and gluing the seal in place helps.
After time, the seal will become compressed and set in place but until then, you will probably be slamming the doors.

My suggestion would be to not drill the holes. I would remove the clips, lightly glue the seals in place, tweak them, and let them set until you are happy with the way the doors close. Then decide if you want to use the clips. That will eliminate any stress over drilling fresh paint....

I am partial to the Toms style carpet strips for the door due to the way they fit and cover the carpet edge. This is the way the original Ford installed strips are made. They are less prone to bend when installed, or stepped on, due to the turned down edge providing extra strength. I hate seeing a fresh carpet install with the strips are wavy and bent to hell where the screws are installed.

Not sure about fabric stores. Home Depot and Lowe’s have some varieties of padding that would work. Another option is to visit a local upholstery shop. They will probably sell you a few yards of the good stuff..... I have ordered it from JC Whitney in the past.

good luck!
