I know the question has been asked before, but I’m seeing a couple of different answers. What is the make / model or part # for the headlight switch that goes with the Centech kit? Mine is a newer harness - purchased last year. After troubleshooting no taillights, I think the switch may need to be replaced.

In a conversation with the Centech Tech last year, he stated that it was from a later model Ford Truck. As it would handle a higher load...

Hope this might get you on the right track?

Thanks guys. I am finding threads that say both HL6636 and HL6629 are the correct part. I called Centech and they were coy - seems they want to sell the switch themselves. The parts look identical on NAPA but who knows how accurate the photos are. Anyway, please chime in with any success stories on these.

Good list!
But I would call Centech first chucky. See if they can confirm your testing procedure and results, and perhaps send you a replacement.
I realize it's been awhile since you purchased, but are just now getting around to installing it and maybe that will give you some leeway in warranty replacement with them.

Worth a quick call anyway. Nice folks.

Ok...taillights are working. I had a fried park lamp fuse and while securing the rear harness, I must have tugged on it a bit, disconnecting the harness from the taillight pigtails on both sides :)

Here’s another question on the light switch, though. I would expect a satisfying “click” when I turn the knob past the rheostat adjustment point for the gauge lights, so that the dome lights can be activated. There is no “click”, the knob spins to adjust the gauge lights dimmer or brighter to a certain point, but just continues to spin. Is there another method to turn on the dome lights? I did not have dome lights originally but have added them, and expected that the dome lights would come on this way as they do in my 64 Mustang.

You are correct. Should be a click, but I've seen some modern switches that still worked, but without the satisfying click. In your case however, you say the lights do not come on.
Can you check the voltage at the switch or wires, or check the fuse for that too, just to be sure?
Did you try turning a little harder? Might be stuck/caught on something.

Hi Paul,

I attached a test light to my dome light wires and can’t get power no matter which way or how much I turn. It’s a spinner and not a clicker no matter what I try. I contacted Centech and they asked that I send the switch back and they will send me a replacement. They want to review for QC purposes. Fair enough, I have not had any other issues with their harness, other than those involving my own errors.

I do agree that they are real nice folks at Centech - I have called before with various questions and always got good advice and not rushed off the phone. It’s great to get this kind of service (similar to the great folks at WH) and it’s a Made in USA product, too.
