My dad had the truck before me and he never changed the fluids in them and Since im finishing up a restoration on it, I want to change the fluids in both differentials. Question is should I go buy a pump and pump them out or take them apart and drain them that way??

Just did this. I took the front cover off and cleaned the diff out and changed the seals and replaced the gasket. I used a large syringe to suck the 9in fluid out (took a while but worked okay). Probably worth buying a pump. JP

If the rear axles have not been out in a while I would suggest pulling them and having the bearings, retainers and seals replaced. You can pull the drop out and give everything a good cleaning and inspection before putting her back together.

I do my diff changes in the summer go for a drive and when i get home i have a cheap 12v pump man it just draws it right out. Piece of cake When those pumpkins are warm the fluid is easy to pull out with a vac

To get the fluid out of the rear I like to break something in the rear end, side/spider gears are my favorite, then when I have the third out to fix that I'll scoop out the oil(and metal bits) and put fresh in.
