I already have a paint gun and 60 Gallon compressor. I probably will end up spraying it. There are some nooks and crannies that would be difficult with a roller. I think I will still use the Rustoleum though.

Tractor supply has very cheap tractor paint but it does not stand up to UV well.

I am going through the same thing right now. I want it all one color and looking good from at least a few feet, but I do not want to spend so much money and time on the paint job that my whole life is ruined when I run it through the mesquite brush.

I have pretty well decided on the acryllic enamel route. It is cheaper than MAACO. Most MAACO jobs I have seen have some obvious problems some where.

What about the cost of a compressor? A big enough compressor to push paint spray would be expensive, no?

Well I guess if you don't have a compressor that throws a wrench in the whole spray gun idea. My compressor is 33 gal. and it worked just fine. You might want to consider buying a compressor anyway, they are very useful.

Used Earl Scheib in '98 for my daily driver pickup. Got the top o' the line 7yr job on one of their half price sales, no pre prep on my part but started with pretty good paint though faded. Looked great the first 2 or 3 years, pretty decent the next few, and needed repainting at years 6-7. Great value considering it was never garaged (or waxed for that matter) in TX, AZ and OK. Finally got around to repainting it via Maaco last year. Same story (top o' the line 6yr job on sale, about $400 iirc) but that was only a year or so ago so who knows how it will hold up. I have a spray can camo job now on my Bronco and I plan to do some basic prep and choose one of the above (or similar cheapie) for a decent, inexpensive job (unless I get really bold and spray it myself).

painted mine myself. first time I painted a car. I took a class and painted it in the class's booth. I spent about $500 on paint and supplies. It looks better in person. The color looks washed out in the pics.

What kind of paint did you use on that Mark? I am intending to paint mine the same color, and yours looks really good.

It's a single stage enamel. I forget the paint brand, but I can look it up when i get home. It's the original color, or supposed to be. It looks more blue than the faded original paint was.

For cheap tough paint, I like the Sherwin Williams Industrial Tile-clad 2-part epoxy at 90 bucks a gallon. They can color it over quite a range too...no extry charge. That is what we use on our racers. Very tough and not a bad gloss either.

I just spent over 800 bucks just on buying the Nason 2-stage paint: base color, primer, thinner, clear and hardner, for my F-350 dually repaint. Jeez Loweez is paint getting expensive.%)

I think I'm gonna try the sponge roller paint job. Spraying is just too messy without a booth, too many airborne VOC's. I sprayed my dash in the backyard last summer and stunk up the whole neighborhood.
If I had access to a spray booth that would be a different story.

If you have a HVLP gun and take you time a small 30 gallon compressor can paint a rig.. I used Ford Blue tractor paint from OReilly's.. about $26 a gallon.. Here is a pic of my hood where I took my time.. Don't look at the rest of the Bronco.. I used about 1/4 of a gallon and didn't take to much time at all prepping it... :) and it shows :)
