Cheap winch

Just in case anybody is on the lookout for a good deal on a winch, Costco has a combo package deal for $299.

It includes a winch (8,000 lb) with 100' of cable, mounting plate, roller fairlead and snatchblock.

It'a Champion winch. It's exactly the same as the Black Mountain winch but with a different sticker on it. Both Black Mountain and Champion buy their winches from another company and then slap their stickers on them.

It's not quite a Warn, but it's a solid inexpensive alternative!

Here's a link to Champion's site. Check it out!

im kinda curious who the original manufacture of this winch is... As so many are retaged as different brands. That is pretty cheap. And from my experience, warn is the way to go, as i've ruined a ramsey twice, but as cheap as this is... it is tempting.

For another cheap winch check out harbor freight, they are having a sale on their winches right now 8000 for $299 and a 10000 for $399, these winches are Mile Marker winches but with a different sticker also. HF also sales a 2 year no questions asked warranty ($30 if I remember right) and I was told last time I was in there that you could renew this warranty every 2 years. Life time no questions asked warranty on a winch. ;D

I saw that Cosco one... I don't know anything about winches, but I do know if you ever have problems with stuff from there you can return it no questions asked, other than does it work!!, just keep your reciepts.

I was very tempted by this winch, might be good for a mild 4x4 person?!

No. The Harbor Freight winches are not rebadged MileMarker winches. They look quite a bit different from them if you compare them side by side.

Ok, then the Mile Marker are rebadged as Harbor Freight winches. Find a Petersen’s 4wheel&off-road April 2006 edition. They have the same exact specs and are both made in China.

I HAVE put them side by side. They are the same. (I am sure that you need to compare the right models when doing so)
While the Harbor Marker winch I have does work, I rarely use it. I will comment that the line speed isn't very high compared to say a Warn, but if I am to the point of winching, I don't need to be racing. It may take me 5 minutes instead of 3, but I am learning to be patient in my old age.

I wonder if they changed them over the last year then. When we looked at them about a year ago the ones they were selling didn't look at all like that. None of them even had 3/8" cable. I may need to take Dad over there again and look at them since he was thinking about getting one.

LOL, I'll second that! I use my EB more for hunting, fishing and a workhorse then rock crawling. After hiking a ridge, I really don't mind a few extra minutes winching out or pulling a log off the trail. Beats walking out for hours. I've used the cheap HF 8000lb for 4 years now, pulling firewood etc etc without any problems.
