Chevy backing plates

Came across an issue today while trying to finish up the chevy disc conversion. The pads that go behind the rotor wouldn't fit between the rotor and the backing plate. Even when I just tried to put the pad all by itself in it is way too tight of a fit.

I read a few old threads about there possibly being some backing plates that wouldn't work but I couldn't find any definite conclusions about that. I'm pretty sure all the other parts are correct but the backing plates I bought used so now I'm questioning them. Anyone else come across this? I'm thinking maybe I could do some grinding on the plates but I'm still not sure it would give enough room.

Not sure these crappy pictures will help at all but here is what I'm working with.

What spindles are you using? hard to really tell from the pics but it looks like at at least one of the backing plates is tweaked. I wouldnt grind on the plates you'll do nothing but weaken them. if the plates are bent a little I would probably try putting them in a press and straighten them out maybe that wil provide the needed clearance.

The spindles I know are the right ones. And I only know that because I originally had the large bearing spindles and had to buy new small bearing disc spindles. The backing plates are the only component that I am unsure of what they came off of other than I was told they should work.
