Cigarette lighter......

Hello all, i'm wondering what all i need in order to get a cig. lighter hooked up and working. I looked JBG and saw that they sell the "complete kit" or soemthing like that, but it only came with the lighter thing and the slot thing it slides into ( if that makes sense?). Anyway, do i need wires or anything else? Thanks a bunch.....

it is called a CIGAR lighter ;D . All you will need is a power wire. Oh, smoking isn't good for you.

Do you want an original looking one (reproductions), or just a functional lighter or do you only want it to use as a 12V outlet?

Unless you're trying to get functional factory look, just go to any autoparts store and get a lighter kit or 12V outlet it.

These will come with the socket recepticle and heat element (if a functional lighter). You will need to use some primary wire to tap in to the fuse block for power. I'm not sure off hand, but you'll probably want 10 or 12 ga since it's one of the heavier current draws.

If you're not going for the stock look, check out any good marine wupply or boat shop for good water resistant lighters and 12V outlets.

My Bronco did not come equiped with the lighter but the blue w/white lighter wire was still under the dash, just hanging loose with the proper connector on it.

My '71 had the wire already there also. When I installed the cigar lighter all I had to do was plug it in. My guess is that they all already have the wiring there (at least that has been my experience with 1970 and newer ones I've seen). Just crawl under the dash with a flashlight and look around.

Kinda on the subject........ We hooked up my stereo power (when key is on) to the same power that the cigar lighter uses......... Was that a bad idea. My stereo doesn't like to work now, neither does the lighter?
