Anyone insure their Bronco with classic car insurance? If so, which one and about what do you pay?

Also, does anyone have experience with insuring a car that is registered in one (say, SC) state but garaged in another (say, CA)?

I've owned a brokerage in CA/AZ for 16 yrs and licensed for the past 27. I would find out if SC is a reporting state.. for example, CA is a reporting state meaning the vehicle registration is contingent on the insurance company electronically filing proof through their system. If you don't have a CA policy the proof doesn't get filed by the out of state company and the registration is suspended (this is true even if a major company like State Farm or AAA), companies don't file to every states MVD/DMV. Other states like ID or MT for example... are not reporting states. I write CA insurance on a trucks/motorhomes etc., registered in MT all the time. Coverage is the same and if truly garaged in CA the insurance company doesn't care where its registered.

I would be registered in GA and it is not a filing state but the car would be garaged in CA. Is there any issue there and who would be the best to cover a Bronco like this? Mostly, I don't want any bs if I was in an accident and somehow denied coverage because of this situation.

So in theory I would mimic this setup? Register/Title via my LLC (I already have one) in Montana or Georgia and then insure and drive in California?

Yes, this is one route you could go. Have a look at 1dollarmontana.com. This is who I went through and it was very quick and painless, but there are other registration companies you could use. The registration is also permanent.

So just to summarize:
I can take my existing Georgia LLC (or Montana LLC) and register my 1976 Bronco
I can insure that Bronco via the LLC with a collector car insurer like Grundy, etc.
I can legally drive in California and in the event of an accident expect the insurance to kick in just as it would in any other situation, correct?

Yes, definitely encourage you to discuss this ahead of time with your insurance company and be very clear about where and to whom it will be registered, and where it will be garaged, but that was my experience with Hagerty. They had no issue whatsoever with any of it and I got the impression this is a common request from their customer base.

I was choosing between Hagerty and State Farm who has the rest of my insurance. Hagerty and SF have a partnership for everywhere except CA, which is where I am and SF said no problem to insure once they had the appraisal.

Otherwise, it would've been Hagerty.

Hagerty and SF are partnering in CA soon. I have my EB insured for $60k with SF as a regular vehicle and not through Classic program. Just easier and not limited to reduced mileage.

You can write in CA, you wouldn't have an issue in any state as insurance covers you everywhere regardless of where it's registered. Only issue (for regular vehicles) is being pulled over and LEO questioning Reg/Insurance/ DL all different states! LOL I have clients that register their work fleets in MT for the tax breaks and insure them here in CA. I also have many clients registering their toys (RVs/Boats/etc) in MT to avoid lux tax in CA but I insure in CA.

Mine through SF doesn’t have any restrictions either and insured for quite a lot but they had to receive and approve the appraisal.

Will be interested in seeing what happens if they do partner in CA.

My DL and Registration would be the same state but it would be garaged in CA.

I am with USAA now for my '76. How did you get SF to agree to the value of your EB?

SF will do stated value to a point and then they want an appraisal if you want higher than that.

FYI I've got USAA for everything in CA (cars, house, etc.) but the Bronco. I chose Hagerty because they are focused on collector cars, offer stated value insurance, seem to have better towing terms, and will cover parts not on the truck during my restoration.

I’d have USAA if I could. Wife grandfather served (he has passed) but since he wasn’t a member and MIL(his daughter) not a member, we don’t qualify.
