cleaning a fuel tank

I am getting ready to drop the main tank on my '77 so I can install a new filler hose and sending unit. The vehicle has had times when it has sat for long periods with gas in the tank.

I think I have seen previous threads discussing cleaning the tank.

Is this something I should do since I will have the tank down anyway?

If so, what do I use and how do I dispose of what I clean / or who can I find to do this for me?

Thanks,

Doug
