Clear over Original Paint?

I love my original paint. it's in great condition with no visible rust and some good patina where the paint has been buffed down to almost bare sheet metal. I am thinking of putting a clear coat on it to protect the finish. Has anyone done this? Even better, does anyone have any pictures?

Much appreciated.

I've seen it done but don't have any pictures. It looks good. The truck I saw had a semi-gloss clear coat, and it looked great.

Proper prep is to sand with 800-1000 and a grey scuff pad. Make sure you don't sand thru the edges.

Gas Monkey used to always do that.
They would put clear over horrible looking original paint.
You probably have good taste and do not watch Gas Monkey though. Haha

I have seen it done to a few rat rod trucks and it looks good. But I would stick with the semi gloss clear. High gloss looks a little funny.
