Clutch Oil Contamination

We are replacing a buddies clutch due to serious bucking on take off. The bell housing is coated with oil and grease on the inside and the clutch fork is as well. However, the clutch and pressure plate look good. In fact, they look new and have no obvious signs of oil on them. How can you tell if the oil has contaminated the clutch? Shouldn't it be obvious? The motor and supposedly a new clutch went in this thing under 5K miles ago.

If the clutch looks good, I bet ur problem is a busted motor mount that is making it buck. it should be obvious that the clutch is oils soaked, hit it with a propane torch for a few seconds if oil comes out of the material u got issues.

I'll give that a shot tonight. I looked at the motor mounts and they look brand new. Like I said, the motor was supposedly rebuilt less than 5K miles ago and from what I can see, they look to have replaced them. I'll look again though. Thanks!

I also noticed that the Z Bar arm that attaches to the bell housing/block wasn't connected to the block. Bolt was left out, or fell out at some point. It was solid and didn't seem to move when the clutch was depressed, but it could have something to do with it. He's running blocks in the back, so perhaps it's axle wrap.

Mine has always bucked on takeoff. I replaced the clutch/PP and had the flywheel resurfaced but that didn't help. I've just lived with it.......

I installed 4.11's over the past summer and the bucking is gone...well it's only in reverse now....forward is smooth.

I'm running blocks as well.

Axle wrap, bad motor mounts, oil contamination, tall gearing, all can contribute to the shudder felt with clutch engagement. Look at the whole package rather than just oil on the clutch.

Mine too. replaced clutch a few miles ago and its starting up again i think. I used a dial indicator to check crankshaft runout compared to bell housing and it was off a little bit. Not sure if that has anything to do with it or not? I guess ill just live with it for a few more years%) When i drove without doors it used to get even worse! I just put in a stock 3 arm clutch and had the flywheel ground so Don might be on to something????? Not sure what pinion angle has to do with anything but who knows. I got 10 deg shims and was thinking of going to 8's. Guess ill have to study that book also.

Mine bucked a little bit before i replaced my clutch. I put in a diaphram type with the springs in the disk. That along with tightening all my clutch rods, joints and mounts solved my issues.
