Noise = power isn't just a hot rod mentality thing, it's an American thing.

The manufacturers have been able to build quiet vacuum cleaners since the mid 1960's but no one would buy them.

Back on topic.
Unless you absolutely insist on all original the best idea is have a good local shop build you a 2-into-1 with a good muffler

I went to a local muffler shop a few years ago and I had them put on duels from the manifolds back with turbo's and exit out the sides behind the rear wheels, all welded and new hangers for less than 200.00 bucks.

I visited several muffler shops today and was quoted $600 bucks to do this same job.

Manifolds are stock, for those that asked.

It's getting deep now. So I'm not patriotic if I don't like obnoxious vehicles. I suppose communists and Islamofascists like quiet cars. The hot rod mentality is summed up as whats good for a race car is good for everything. With that premise, sane conversation is impossible. To the uninformed, Ford small block cast iron manifolds are bolted directly to heads with no gasket. My point about a lack of information defining what is original stock, is only reenforced when whatever a previous owner screwed up is called stock. Try to find a photo of an EB engine compartment that looks original. Those trying to meet emission requirements or enhance the value of their classic truck by doing an accurate restoration, are hard pressed to get the information they need. On the other hand there's plenty of advice on how to turn a 4x4 truck into a wanna be race car.

I just found my receipt, it was a little more than a few years ago, 6 actually, time goes by fast. It was 219.22, I new it was around 200.00. I guess my point was that I wanted to recommend going to a local shop instead of ordering online and paying for shipping.
I went to a small shop and the guy was pumped to do it and gave me a good deal. Like Scoop said check out several shops until you find one you feel comfortable with. The first place I went to I got in an argument with the manager, he kept telling me I had a Bronco II, so I left.

I got a local guy that has put 3 single exhaust systems on for me, he tells folks I'm the only guy that wants duals made into singles!!! He runs new pipe from the headers into one muffler and out behind the pass. rear wheel (Stock) for $250 and he is an artist at his work. There is very little need or gain for dual mufflers and exhaust on a stock rig!!! My 2 cents!!!;D;D;D
Good luck!!!

After visiting 2 exhaust /muffler shops and speaking with 3 others (who instilled no confidence via phone), it appears that I will have to keep looking for someone who is willing to do the work I'm requesting and not the work that they want to perform because it is convenient for them.

Finding reputable people with reasonable rates has become a very difficult task here on Long Island.

But, I'm persistent and won't make any move until I'm convinced it's the right move for me and is respectful to the truck.

Good move! You could order stock replacement parts from one of the the vendors with ads on this site and then have a good shop install it.

Pictures definitely helped get responses. Stick with 2 into one. Try not to get talked into exiting straight out the rear if you plan on going topless.
Side exit behind the rear wheel is best to avoid fumes in cab but many get talked into straight pipes out the rear.
Seems like you are sticking with stock looking vehicle with stock 302 so factory style 2 into 1 side exit would be fine.
NY/NJ prices are high but $600 still seems high. Should be a 1 hour job for good mechanic using stock parts.
