Custom Dash - Mounted to Roll Cage

I'm working on a project bronco. I'm not too worried about authenticity, and trying to do it on a budget.

It has a fiberglass tub, firewall, hood, etc, and an all4fun cage. The tub is aged, in OK condition and banged up from sitting in different garages, transport damage, etc.
I did not purchase the tub, and I think I might be missing some different parts to it. I do not have the original dash panel or pad, any part of the steering column, etc.

I plan to use autometer, speedway or other gauges.

With that said, I'm looking at BCBronco's blank dash panel, and with shipping, I'm close to $350 and I'm sure it will take a bit of fab to install.

I'm curious if anyone has built a dash panel off the cage using a steel or aluminum panel? I am picturing a top and bottom tube that mounts to the cage and then the dash panel is bolted to these tubes.

I think all I need is gauges. For radio, I'll probably use some new tech that plays off my phone. I don't need a glove box.

This will be a 3 seasons, perfect weather cruiser, garage kept, <1000 miles/year and maybe some light trails.

Any pics or info is much appreciated.

your imagination is the limit, I haven"t done it with a bronco yet but I have in buggies I built its not to hard and will give you more room behind the dash. I would go for it

I don't have any good pictures on my phone at work, I will snag some today when I get home. When my cage was built, the dash was built at the same time. It looks pretty stock-ish but was blank so I could do the gauge layout I was looking for. It uses a dzus fastener on both sides to mount the dash. The intent was so that you could quickly pop the dash off and work on wiring etc with easier access. That ended up not being the case because the steering column gets the way.

Mine is mounted in the stock position and a DIN radio, but it has autometer gauges, etc.

Yes, I've done it in a rockbuggy 20 years ago when I was into that thing. A buddy worked at an exhaust shop and we used exhaust tubing and layed an aluminum dash into that. Thinking about the same thing. Wish I had some pics of it.
