So my buddy makes racks for VW buses and I love how they look more so than most racks I've been able to find on the market, at least for my style of bronco.

Here are a couple pics of the sketched out design along with some of the VW racks. It will be different than his VW racks because it will be basket style.

My rack should be done for super celebration, hopefully the ladder will be too. Drew, my buddy, will be able to make them pretty easily afterwards and should be able to offer them for a good price.

What do yall think? I can't decide which color to powdercoat it.

Neat! I would try and add some radiuses to it like the VW racks. Espcially in the corners. I have a old Con-Ferr roof rack that I run sometimes, you might look them up for inspiration since they are period correct....

Would you mind sending a pic? I have seen a bunch online but not sure if I have seen the Con-Ferr... A search for them brings up all kinds of different racks.

Not sure if you noticed but on the sketch all four corners will have a radius in them and the top and bottom should match one another. Kinda like your typical basket rack. One difference will be that the legs are not going to be the runners, they will only support from the side. Each runner will have a 90 bend in it and match closely to how he supported the vw racks.

I believe this is a Con-Ferr roof rack. This is a Bronco that was owned by forum member Bronco Junkie.

That does look more like the way they use to make them like this one I got in the late '70s. The new basket shaped ones that are available now do not fit the angular shape of the Bronco in my opinion.

Thats a good looking rack! The bronco is killer too! Do you know the manufacturer of the rack?

A HWE style Bronco rack would be sweet!
I would make it slightly shorter than your first drawing pic though so it sits on the Bronco
closer to how they sit on the Bus. You don’t want it from gutter to gutter...

Unfortunately I am pretty sure they are no longer available. It is European. I have seen one other Bronco somewhere with one. So they are out there. Very popular in the late seventies.
The useful feature for this post is that it is held together with screws and can be totally disassembled and fit into a box half the length of one of the side rails. IT is a feature that really comes in handy and something worthy of trying to duplicate.

Metal for the rack is being delivered today! Hopefully I'll get a pic of it tacked together soon for y'all to see. Goal is to have it powder coated next Monday...

Well, the rack is tacked together for fitment and just about ready to weld and send to the powder coater. I am going with black because it's really the only color that the coater can guarantee to have done by next Tuesday before I leave for TN. I considered white but we would have had to order the powder. Maybe I will change it up at some point. Here are some pics of the progress...

Nice.
Are you going to use the HWE style clamps as well?
