Dana 20 transfer case grinding issue?

Hello!

I am a new guy trying to get himself a Bronco (after years of street cars i'm finally giving in to the fun of off-roading) anyway, the Bronco i'm looking at has a Dana 20 transfer case that makes a whining noise when coasting downhill. the current owner claims that this is normal from the Dana 20. is this true? and if it is not true, what could the problem be? I'm sorry, but I really don't know much about the Broncos yet. (though i'm trying to learn)

I appreciate any help you may have!

Welcome aboard.

The D20 uses straight cut gears in low range. They make a whinning noise. In high range there shouldn't be any noise.

A few good things about the D20 is it's cheap and easy to rebuild and cheap to replace if you need to.
