My front pinion seal is leaking pretty bad. I've done a few searches and found some that they say the nut needs to be torqued to 200 ft/lbs and others that say to count the exposed threads before removal and put it back to the same. Looking for correct advice.

the dana 44 has shims between the pinion bearings so all you need to do is torque it to 200 ft lbs

Tried and failed today to get the nut off. Too much for my whimpy impact driver. Tried a breaker bar and still no luck. Any suggestions?

breaker bar with a 4 foot pipe on the end! Id say add some heat but that might not be such a great idea? Since your replacing the seal maybe there is nothing heat can destroy. Heat is usually the best way to remove stubborn nuts and bolts

IF it was locktited, heat would help. You don't want a ton of heat just enough to get the nut nice and toasty. Otherwise, put the wheels on the ground, engage the hubs, and use a breaker bar, or spend some cash on a nice air gun. I prefer the latter, as it will see regular use.

Went to Lowes and picked up a Cobalt air wrench, heated the bolt and it came right off. Installed the new seal and I hoping that problem is fixed
