It will have a metric bolt pattern if it came from an Excursion. It would work fine if you found a Superduty or Excursion front to go along with it. You would have to use the metric wheels, but I you have to buy them anyways, whats the difference.

I am using a 14 bolt from a 79' Chebby, it came with 4:10 gears and cost a whole $150. So to use a more standard rearend with a standard bolt pattern you are not talking about a bunch of money. Get it, sell it, buy what you need!

The excursion never had a dana 70. It came with a sterling 10.25 (same as 10.50) As stated above its a 8x170mm bolt pattern. That axle also came in a 8x6.5" on the pre99 superduty's, so you may be able to swap parts to make it work!

I think the excursion front axle is either a D50 or D60 I believe 2002 up had the 60 earlier had the 50's

Well the D50 is stronger than a 44 and not quite as good as a 60 due to axle shaft size which is about the same as the D44 and uses the same ujoints as the big D44 axles shafts.

Since its a front and it free, I would research it some more before you toss it. Depending on what size tire you want to run and what the use of your eb will mainly be for.

also check on gear options before you put alot of money in it. quite a few axles don't seem to get the aftermarket support. some may be limited to 4.10 - 3.20ish. good for a daily but not what i assume you want for an offroader...4.56,5.13...

I think gears are availible for the 50 down to 5.38. I dont think theres a carrier split either.

I was planning 37 for street and daily and 39or40 s for trail. I just don't want to do thing twice if I spend the money on a 60 I'm done right?

Yeah you'd probably be better off with a 60. Axle shaft size and ujoint size is the issue with the 50.(basically D44 sized uloints but maybe slightly larger axleshafts. Otherwise from what I understand its almost as good as the 60.
I believe the D50 has a 1.31 dia axle shafts where the D60 has 1.5 dia shafts. And of course the 60 has a tom of aftermarket support.

The weakness of the D50 is the pinion, it had the same diameter as a D44. The spider gears in a D50 are a lot bigger that the D44. So they hold up better that a D44 does in general, but if you are thinking of running 40's then don't waist your time. It would be worth some coin to a StuperDuty owner though. I have seen a couple of them twist a pinion off.
