Dash Speaker for 1967

I am putting in a painless wiring Kit so I decided to upgrade to the RetroSound unit and in-dash speaker.

The speaker that I got from WH is too small for my dash, the holes don't line up. After looking at pictures, it looks like the 1966 and 67 grill had larger vent openings than the 68-77. Is that correct?

Does anyone know what size speaker fits the 67 opening? And does Retro or any vendor sell one?

Sorry about that Nash. Bump again.

Yes, they are different, but I thought the holes were spaced somewhat close to the same for all years. Looks just a little different though, judging just by the pics. How far off of the 3 7/8" spacing are the holes in your dash?

Maybe there is a way to make this one work? How far off are the holes? Can you line up the speaker and take a shot of it so we can see what you have to deal with? Or at least take a measurement of the early hole spacing for reference.
Thanks. Hopefully someone has dealt with it successfully.

If you can't get it to work somehow though, let us know and we'll take care of it at our end. Not sure what to replace it with though, as we don't have other options I don't think. But if Retrosound has one, we'd better start carrying it!

Curious what others have done, but in the meantime would love to see a side-by-side (or more accurately, an overlapped) of the speaker and screw holes.

Thanks

Paul

Paul,

Thanks for the reply. See pictures below. As you can see, it’s smaller and the holes don’t line up. I tried to take a picture of the bottom holes lining up on the dash so it shows how far off the top is. Not too far and I could fan something to make it work.

However, I noticed that Retrosound carries a 5x7 speaker that I might try since that’s the size of the original speaker. I’ll get this one packaged and a return started with WH.

Sounds good. And I'll try to get a note put on the web page that indicates an issue with early compatibility.

Thanks

Paul, I went back to WH website and I see that you do have disclaimer that the speaker may not fit earlier dash styles. I just missed that... unless yall were so quick and added it in the last day, which is impressive.

Anyway, I will let you know if the 5x7 fits. If so, it may be a new offering.

thanks for the help.

Might have been added already.
The red "NOTE" section was already there with it's other comments, but I think that last line could have been added yesterday.
At least I did not notice it before either!

We had originally put that third image in the mix to show the exact bolting dimensions, but that alone without some kind of rider probably does not automatically turn on the alarm bells and make someone question their own bolt pattern before making the purchase.
Having that little bit of detail in the text seems like a good idea.

Just saw another layer of info on the site. Even though the first intro still says "for '66 to '77" in the main text it now says "for '68 to '77" instead.
Works for me!

Maybe that little bit at the end of the red NOTE was already there after all!%)

Fixed it on our site. I'll give retro a heads up too.

FYI. The Retrosound 5x7 is not an exact fit either, however I was able to make it work with some longer screws.

Thanks for the update. Glad you got it installed.
So the longer fasteners just gave you a little fudge room then? Allowing you to skew the screws in order to fit the holes?

So not exact, but close.

Thanks

Paul

A few more pic of the back side of screws. Mine also had this plastic cover on out side of dash when I bought it. I don't think it was factory since it says made in Taiwan but if some one needs it to cover a hack job let me know.
