Detroit Locker Install question?

Over the weekend I removed my third member and replaced the original diff. with a Detroit Locker and new bearings. After I set the backlash etc., everything looked good with no or minimal backlash. After getting the third member and axles back in I noticed play in the yoke...............approx. 1/2" to 3/4" of movement back or forth before the axles move. Is this normal for a locker or do I need to start over.

Thanks again, Tom

Normal,
Thats why you measure your backlash at the gear, not the yoke.
You are feeling the slop in the detriot.

The detroit has a lot of backlast between the carrier and the axles. That is multiplied by the gear ratio. With my 4.88s I think I have a little less then a quarter turn at the yoke. Perfectly normal.
