I have a 1975 Bronco and was originally going to put a Detroit Locker in my front Dana 44, until I found a True Trac on Craiglist for $50. The True Trac had the same gear ratio as my current open carrier and is from a F-250 F-350 pickup, so I am thinking it is for a Dana 44 that will work with my 75 Bronco (unless I am completely wrong- but the picture looks correct). My Question is if the True Trac will work is it worth putting it in my front end, or is any LS not worth the time? I already have a Detroit Locker in the rear.

Many people are very happy with their front True Tracs. I'd like to have one. You should double check what it fits. I think the bigger Fords used bigger diffs.

True traks are great unless you lift tires into the air. Then they are as good as an open diff. more forgiving to steer then a locker as well.

I have driven a lot of diffs over the years. The helical gear type diff is about the best thing around for smoothness and good power split. That is until one of the tires gets too light. They are becoming a favorite of the high HP front wheel drive cars. They due tend to pull into a turn if you are one the skinny, but that is on the street.

If you are picking up tires playing on the rocks, locker is the only way to go. Anything short of that, True Trak it.

I love my front and rear TrueTracs. They hook up very well, but I'm only running 33" tires. An F-250 or F-350 will probably have a Dana 50, 60, or 70 though which is a different carrier.

A lot of earlier F250s had a D44 in the front. They are the 8 lug D44 that people stubmle onto from time to time.

They are king as far as Limited slip, but I always go with the rule of thumb "Do it once and do it right". So if you plan to go with a locker, I would just do that. If you're on a really tight budget, I'd say give it a try. You have to factor in the gear setup and installation kit too.

For $50 why not? Sounds like a bargain and probably won't break shafts like a locker would.

All Ford Dana 44 carriers are interchangable regardless what it's coming from or going to.

Providing that it is on the right side of the case break for the gear ratio you want to run

yet to be determined
I ran a Tru Trac for about a year. I really liked it, but The center pin broke and the centering block fell out. Broke the heck out of everything and ruined my ring and pinion. I installed an OX After paying for 2 ring and pinions, bearings, misc I should have put the ox in first.

I put Detroit TrueTracs in both the front and rear of my 74. They have been great so far I run them with 4:11's and 35's with a three speed. I've taken it through alot of mud and so far they have performed great. I have not tried any rock crawling with them but I'm not building the truck for that.

I run a Tru-trac in the front and prefer it to a locker in the front. It's great on snowy/icy roads. But it has it's pros and cons on the trail. It keeps it easy to make tight turns and switchbacks and does not try and push you to the downside of offcamber roads. Although not nearly as effective as a locker when you lift a wheel, you can trick it into sending some torque to the grounded wheel, by using the brake and the gas (easy with an auto tranny). With rear lockers it will get you over all but the most knarly obstacles. It's a nice compromise for an all purpose vehicle.

True Trac in the front and Auburn in the rear on my last two DD broncos and I love em. For my trail rig I prefer Detroit Locker/Spool.
