Did a dyno run today!

Ran the 76 on a dyno today with I think pretty good results. It is a 69 351W with the D0OE heads, an isky cam, stealth intake, Proform 650 carb, 350 gears, and 33 inch tires on aluminum wheels. The first run at the rear wheels was 154 Hp and 220 Torque.

Final numbers were 210 HP at the rear wheels and 297 ft. lbs of torque after re jetting the carb and fighting the throttle linkage and bell crank to allow WOT.

WOW was it a fun ride home! Totally changed the riding experience. I learned today that I really need to get those lower gears. I have a toploader 4 speed and they had it up to 123 mph in 3rd gear! After I do change the gears, the dyno guys said we should be able to get more hp in 4th gear. I also will be looking for a good throttle linkage upgrade to replace the limiting bellcrank.

It should also be noted that the motor only has about 500 miles on it and it is still a little tight. Max RPM was about 5000.

I will never try to tune a carb again without having it hooked up to the dyno. It saves so much time. It still took over 3 hours from start to finish and did cost $350...... Totally worth it!

Wholly Shit Darin, where did you do 123? Ritzville is full of Cops:eek:
Do you have a Dyno close to the Valley?

Ha, ha. The 123 mph was on the dyno. That speed on the road would be a death sentence with the highway ruts around here. Over 70 and I've got white knuckles.

Yeah, the dyno was at a shop over off Barker in Otis Orchards. Very cool group of guys. I knew it would be a good day when I pulled up and saw a 09 Shelby, an 09 Sleeper 500 HP mustang, 69 Nova, 70 ish Challenger all in the shop. Super cool stuff!

Those are some pretty good numbers at the wheel.

Dyno runs should always be made in as close to 1:1 ratio gear on the trans as possible to limit gear reduction effects. What gear were you running, and what gear ratio does the trans have in that gear.

Lower gears in your diff or trans will yield a higher delivered HP at the wheels (which really is the important thing anyway) but obviously not change the engine hp. I've met a lot of ricer kids who did dyno runs in 3rd gear to get a biased number so they could brag. The real results always come "where the rubber meets the road" though.

It is a toploader 4 speed that I bought from a guy on this board. Not sure I know what the ratios are for each gear. I know they ran the numbers in both 2nd and third gear and had almost the exact hp and torque readings. + or - 1 or 2.

It would be interesting to put some 30" or smaller tires on and then run it again.
