Distributor / Ignition Question 351W

I have a 94 351W flat tapper that i have rebuilt, i a getting close to install, and in hope to fire and break in over the break. This build is going to run a qudrajet and as minimal wiring as possible. I know this is like asking what your favorite color is, but what is the most simple reliable distributor / coil / ignition setup that i could run? I seem to recall some discussions about single wire and such.

Thanks.

Many have belly ached about the HEI dizzys, but I have had the same setup in mine since 2005 with no issues......Kinda matches my backwards Qjet..

The cheap hei's(pro comp) are just that and lots of guys have problems with em. Spend the $ and get a dui dizzy and you will be fine. I've been running the dui dizzy's with a q-jet on both broncos for quite a while now without any issues. Both are with 351w's. If you havent bought a manifold yet look into the offy. then you don't need the carb adapter.

I was thinking the 300+ for the DUI was probably the preferred path. I am running an Edelbrock intake so i will probably need the adapter. As i recall for a 94 351 flat tapper i would need a distributor with cast iron or composite gears, correct?

Thanks.

Steve, does that all fit under a stock hood? I assume a 1 inch BL, if its more how much clearance dizzy to hood and carb to hood.

I think the hei will fit a stock hood with 1"b/l but not sure. I know without the b/l u have to notch the front hood brace a little. As for the q-jet/offy set up i'm going back to a stock hood but have a 2" b/l. I'm running an edelbrock elite triangle air cleaner to clear the hei. It has a bit of a drop base to it. You may be able to find a lower air cleaner to fit a 1" lift. I cant get an accurate measurement til i get the hood swapped. The offy manifold takes a little clearancing for the butterflys on the carb but its easy.

What year truck do you have?

I run a 351w with a Duraspark in my 76. Plugs right into original harness with NO issues.

You should just need the dizzy. I ordered mine direct from dui. They ask for a bunch of vehicle info such as vehicle weight, cam specs and stuff to set it up for your application.
