I have an 89 351W swiched EFI to Carb.

I pulled a Duraspark Dizzy (351W) from an 85 Merc. It won't drop in. The EFI one drops right in.

Lenght of shaft is different but this should not matter. Gears, shaft and everything measure the same and look the same.

Am I missing something ?

Real quick. Take a 5/16 allen wrench and try fitting both of them into the oil pump end of the distributer. It should fit both of them. If it doesn't fit see how well a 1/4 allen fits. If the 1/4 allen fits good then that is a 302 distributor.

if it's stopping right at the O ring, it sounds like it's not dropping onto the oil pump drive all the way. did you try turning the engine and seeing if it'll drop?
