Does This Sound Right?

I just had some 33's put on my 1973. I also had the brakes on all 4 wheel completely redone (drums) and had all new brake lines installed. Now, when I apply the brakes, I get a major pull to the right. It's not just a pull on hard stopping. It's a "better hang on tight" pull even on a normal stop.

The mechanic who did the tires and brakes claims this is due to worn C-bushings and too much play in the center link. Granted, the C-Bushings and center link are probably original and need to be replaced but my question is; why did they just become an issue now? Would the larger tires, had 28's, cause the worn bushings and center link issues to be more apparent and the hard pull is the result? Anything else I should check? Could there be problems with the brake job itself that would cause this?

Thanks

sounds like they need adjusted, if the bushings are worn out you would have more ploblems than that

yes they are but only in reverse, you still need set them up where they have just a little drag on them while rotating the tires

They are self adjusting. You or a mechanic will need to adjust the fronts so they are adjusted equally and not cause a pull when the brakes are applied. Should be able to get it to where there is very little to no pull at all.

Yes definitely replacing all the front bushing will make a world of difference in the handling . On my 1st Bronco it would change lanes when I got on the brakes . Changed to urethane bushings , it for the most part stopped straight & true . Going to 33's will make it handle worse & I really can't see a qualified mechanic doing a brake job as described incomplete ( wheel cylinders , adjusted etc ) . It's easy to check/adjust the drums so check that anyway . But the best cure would have been disks & new bushings .

The fronts are not adjusted the same. Even if the parts that your mechanic said were bad it still should stop pretty straight if the brakes are ajusted right. need to have the same drag of the shoes on both sides. I would take it back and have him adjust them again.

x3 on the lazy mec... you would have other problems if your c-bushings were that bad...i would adj. myself....drum brakes are not as bad as what people make them out to be...but to keep them in perfect working order just req. more work thats why most switch over to disc...

X4 you paid money for a job and the job is incomplete!

Like the others have said it really is something easy to do, good to learn and know how to do it.

Just remember with these lazy mechanics thet havent seen or dealt wit front drums in 20 years don't expect them to know what to do. Go find a mechanic that older than your Bronco.
